My First carpet anemone

Anemones for life
Hey, so i was just looking for some pointers, for my first carpet anemone..
i threw it in my 24g with LeD setup just to start out cause its better quality...and well established tank, alot more then my 75g is right now, which is what it will evnetually be going into..

its a Electric Green carpet anemone, it arrive kinda white.. im guessing due to lack of light on the trip, second i put it in the tank, green started to come back doesnt really show in pictures,

i am however...a little concernde about its moth, its open with idk what looks to be white stuff...insides? sticking out.. and its been in there for about 1-2 hrs now and only seems to be opening bigger..

and ive been readying about ppl getting carpets and making sure moths closed and tight, so that was my only concern! :)

this pic u can see its mouth open...

k but i tend to be an over worry'er when i first get stuff, and me deciding to take the dive and go for a carpet anemone.. just little cautious atm..

if anyone can give pointers, or tell me if i should be concerned witht he way it looks right now.. id greatly appreciate it.

every so often as u can see in the last pic it also spits out a almost like a type of mucus? idk if its pooping, or toxic?
i been sucking it out of the tank with a turkey baster.. but ya.. should i be worried about that?

after hours of research..ive come to a conclusion ive boughten a very stressed out carpet anemone..... from what i can read... and what i can see on the one i received..

im debating on keeping it and seeing what happens, or trying to return it for a credit...

it arrived, bleached with mouth open.. (could be due to lack of oxygen in the bag) but idk.. as it opened up under me LeD's it seems the color started to come back... and is making progress each hour 4 hrs total now.. ...

idk i might be over reacting.. but i just wanna make sure what i do is the right thing..

yeah not looking good... i would try to get credit if it was me.

bleaching is way too long term of a sign to be just attribute to being in a bag IMHO. carpets don't ship well, that will probably be the first thing they say, but the fact that it's that white on arrival doesn't sit right.

regards and good luck

Do you have a pair of clowns? If not try and get wild pair and they will nurse the nem, tank raised clowns won't help it imo.

ya, i got a pair of clowns, but pretty sure they are tank raised and not wild.. ill see what i can do for some wild ones

I have seen and had anemones that were far worse off when received. I would be sure to feed it silversides or table shrimp every couple of days.

By the look of the base, this thing is going to be rather large. I would suspect that once healthy and opened up, this thing will engulf nearly your entire tank

ya the order said it would be 4'' in diameters..dunno if it was refering to the foot/base or the actually nemmy.. haha.. when i received and saw the base/foot..was like ya thats gonna be big when it opens maybe they sent me the wrong size and i lucked out as far as that, but im really hoping this pulls through

should i wait a week before trying to feed it?

if it progresses by tomarrow..and so forth ima keep it, if it shows dramatic decline ima call the place up and ask for store credit of some sort..

Also if anyone knows anything about led's is this way too much for it? idk like i said i dont have any problems with LPS/SPS/softies.. as far as lighting/water parameters.. i havent actually had my lighting measured.. but i bought a DIY setup from bill at reefledlights.com and told me its equiv to 300 watts.. (on my 24g)
its 12 blues, 8 whites cree LeD's with 80 degree optics sitting 2 1/2 feet above my tank.

is it too much light for it? light shock at all? i turned half em off to maybe reduce its light shock a bit

********* Should i be worried about this, im kinda tempted to take it out of tank and let it sit in a bucket, because its not looking healthier, even though its been a couple hours, but it keeps spitting out a white ...mucus looking tissue type, and the base keeps looking like its getting mroe and more shrivled, so idk if its spitting out its own internal tissue? also it looks like its spitting out a almost white liquid that u can watch vaporize/evaporate as it leaves the mouth are these the toxins i read about?

im pretty sure ima take it to get a credit tomarrow.

The white stuff sounds like its spawning. A nem that size can pollute that little tank quickly. They don't release toxins i am aware of, Just that they can add a ton of waste to the tank when they die.
If you can get credit back for it i would. JMO

shoulda went with my gut feeling last night and taken it out..
woke up this morning to a mildly cloudy tank, so i took it out
i had already kept in touch with the store online last night and im able to get a full credit...
i can either get another one or cash, dunno if i should now wait till all the levels test fine... (havent ran any yet, just assuming they are polluted idk ) or whaa... gonna do a water change today good thing i got 25 gallons of pre mixed water on hand at all times :P

but ya..ill probably give it another go.. this time make sure they send me a healthy one

Do a waterchange and run some carbon, I would use a double dose of carbon, and run the skimmer very wet for a week or so.
I would hold off a week maybe 2 before getting the second shipped to you to make sure the water is clean for the new one.
I don't have alot of experience with nems, but this is what i would do.

after thinking about it, and ppl talking about it polluting the little tank really fast i think that is what ill do.. wait until the 75g is ready
