If you can see it looks like the black O ring has a chip in the top of it

Where is the leak at exactly?

I just took the skimmer back. The guy I deal with at the store said its a defect and he's going to order me a new one. So I should have it by Wensday. I wonder if there's a better way to fit it so you can open the hood a good bit of the way. I couldn't get my hood to open once I installed it in the back. Hopefully they should have my jaw fish tomorrow too.

Adjust the skimmer all the way toward the back of the tank. You'll have to use some of the packing material to rest against the glass and the body of the skimmer to make it plumb. If you notch the back lip you can open the hood to the 5th notch on the hood.

If I remember correctly you can't remove the in-tank basket with the skimmer in place. Not that big of a deal but something to be aware of.

Thanks John. How far do you have the sponge return part out of the water? Also how you add more hose to the drain hose to the collection cup? I'm a little nervous of it over flowing when I'm at work or of I go away for the weekend.

Be careful with dosing when you are not testing for that. Using reef crystals it is highly unlikely your iodine is low in a tank that lightly stocked. Things you need to test constantly for
Nitrate
Phosphate
Magnesium(yours will get low before you realize it....it got me this time around since I figured nano I wont need to test mg until its close ot fully stocked)
Dkh
Ca
One of these was prob off which caused the xenia to be ****ed off, reefsnow is not needed with the corals you currently have the light and keeping those numbers in line is all you need. Reefsnow is a huge feeder to Hair Algae if you are not spot feeding to corals who will take it in, you are better with oyster eggs as a lot of fish and inverts will eat what the corals don't.

I hear you. I've been testing my iodine even though every one says the kits are not very accurate and it gets low towards the end of the week so I just add a few drops to bring it up. I think my Xenia looking bad was it splitting. I've seen it do this a few times were it lays on it side now and it forms another branch and looks great the next day. It's actually 5 times the size when I bought it I'll have to take pics. I also think I have two different types on one frag. I'll post a pic when I get home.

As far as the feeding now I have oyster egg and oyster tissue food that I mix with brine, cyclops, marine snow for my flower pot coral.

I do need a mag test kit that's next on my list. It's like never ending buying equipment lol I should of just got a 40 gallon breeder so much more room to work with.

Just picked up a Pom Pom Crab last night and a huge turbo snail. I really didn't realize how tiny the pom Pom crabs were till you see them in person. It's probably lost in my tank now haha.
My skimmer is still on back order so I've been waiting for it to come in here at some point.
Only issue I'm having now is a hair algae attack on my candy cane coral and my frog spawn not fully opening up yet. I'm guessing it's still trying to get settle to the tank.
By the way I stole your idea John about letting the green star polyps grow up the back wall and they already attached them selfs to it.

I chickened out at the last minute and didn't do it. I put mine on a rock in the middle of the tank not close to anything. It still managed to spread (across the sand bed) and attach itself to rocks on each side of it.

Haha yeah I'm scared I might have made a mistake but oh we'll it's already attached to the wall and rocks. I'm going to try and take some updated pics when I get home I just didn't wanna show off my cyno and hair algae out break lol. I keep getting free stuff from people now I got two clove polyp stalk frags (at lest that's what I think they are) and two huge turbo snails. Ones the size of a golf ball.

So came home from work to my tank leaking all over the place! This **** is starting to drive me crazy! Nothing is going right with this tank!

Can you tell where the leak is coming from?

Yeah it was coming from the top i drained the water and sealed it with aquarium seal. Now im using the wave maker on 45 seconds instead of having the pumps on 24 7. The water just doesnt seem as clear as it has been now.

So my eshops skimmer finally came in last night after being on back order. Its been set up for 24 hours now and has pulled some gunk from the tank but it still doesnt look broken in yet. Im going to leave it on the low setting until it looks like its really starting to foam good so i dont over flow the thing wile im at work. Ill post a pic of what it skimmed while i was at work today.
John you said on your post you ditched the foam filter and went with a filter sock? Did you just get a normal sump filter sock and fit it on there. How long will these micro bubbles last by the way? I remember you had issues with them when you set yours up.
Also i broke that hold down bracket off when trying to open the hood witch sucks cause now i cant use it on a bigger tank but it has a foam block under it holding it up so it seems to be stable but on the good side i can open the hood all the way now.

I didn't have much of a bioload in the beginning and it took FOREVER for it to break in. If I remember correctly about 6 weeks. It took so long that I almost gave up on it and removed it. I purchased an extra large felt sock (100 or 200 micron, can't remember) and my wife cut it up and made socks to fit the chamber. They clogged quickly and were a pain to clean. The only reason I used it was to try and control the micro bubble problem. Both of mine use to the foam piece now.

While mine was breaking in I put the overflow hose where it would empty right back into the overflow chamber in case I had it adjusted incorrectly. Don't forget to make sure that tube is clear. Both of mine had to have the white plastic end piece opened.

Once they break in and you finally find it's sweet spot the thing will skim like a beast. I have mine adjusted real dry and get that much in about 3 weeks, it's almost black.

Witch white pieceyou mean john? The one on the over flow? I was thinking about getting a longer piece of hose for it today so i could have it drain to a bucket behind the tank

Both of mine came with a white plastic end on the overflow tube that fits on the side of the cup. I don't know if it has a specific purpose but that was the piece that was plugged. I point mine to one of the return chambers. It has overflowed twice since it's been set up. Once was after I put some new plumbers putty on a rock to make it more stable and the other was me adjusting it wrong after I cleaned out the cup. Both times I was lucky to be sitting beside it when it happened. That thing pumped a lot of water very quickly so I set mine up like that so I wouldn't have to worry about running the return pumps dry if I happen to not be home.
