My First Maxima

Hi Everybody,

This beautiful little guy caught my eye, and it was love at first sight. He's my first attempt ever at a Tridacnid clam, only other experiance I have is some kind of ugly clam that came attatched to a piece of LR. Anyhow, I visited www.clamsdirect.com and it seems the food of choice is DT's live phyto that stores 5 months in the fridge. My 10 gallon nano has only 2 pieces of LR in it, and a 3/4" emerald crab. This beauty is going to be my center piece, and is 4" across. I had 2 questions.

1. Will 76 degrees be sufficient for him/her?

2. Will 70 watts of 10K Ushio be sufficient for a 10 gallon for the little critter?

Thanks everybody. I haven't upgraded my lighting just yet, I want to make sure that will be enough before I buy.

I got it from Vivid Aquariums. They had a bunch of clams, and various other creatures that I am still wiping drool off my chin over. Here's the link:

They had such awesome customer service, they put it on pre-order status, even though I am a first time customer, and had no money to put down. They're holding my clam for me until pay day (September 22) and will then hold it once paid until October 6th so my tank has time to cycle some more. Talk about service! Oh yes, I will be a returning customer. Their prices are a little high, but you just don't see beauties like this elsewhere, it is worth it!

The temp is a little low IMHO.... I would run 79-80.... I have several clams they seem to be happier at the temps I run and that is between 81-82....

They recommend about 3 watts per gal... you are about 7 watts...if my math is right... should work...
