My first reef build. (Fluval Edge)

Well, I'm officially a saltwater tank owner!

Please excuse the crappy, dark photos and the unmade bed... ( If my wife knew I put that out for all the world to see she'd shoot me!) :D

i have tried to model a fluval many times to make a reef tank, i just couldnt seem to do it correctly but now that they have led's i am rethinking it. where did you purchase your little led strips from? would you mind teling me the cost? are you planning on keeping the existing filtration?

Just a few green star polyps, zoas, torch, and a either a red banded high fin gobi or a yasha gobi with a pistol shrimp. Possibly a couple of cardinals.

Small update!
Six pounds of Rock!

And this little guy....

I'm assuming it's a brittle or serpent star, which while cool, worries me because A: I know he probably won't survive the cycle. B: If he does, he can't stay in this little tank.

I've got lots of those mini serpant stars in my nanos, tends to be a pretty common hitchhiker with LR. Probably more than one in there.

I like the dead acro LR, and that doesn't look like aptasia to me.

Yeah, I thought the acro was neat too. The back of it is covered with coraline. This thing in question though, its brownish in color. It has a "foot" about 3/4 inch long, with a crazy looking head. It seems to "lay down" and stretch out in the dark and then "stand up" and get more compact when the lights come on.

I've also found some type of bristle worm and a 'pod swimming around. Will this stuff make it through the cycle you think?

Looking good so far. I can't tell from the pic if it is an aptasia but I would pull that piece of rock and get it off either by boiling it or other means. You don't want to start with those things:(

Turns out I wound up having to re-scape due to a sand / powerhead compatibility issue. :D I got a larger grained sand. While I had that rock out, I lemon juiced whatever it was, and when it went in its hole, I superglued it shut! :D

Why not just use aiptasiaX next time? Surely boiling the rock would kill off the bacteria inside it aswell as the aip? & I wouldn't be keen on putting super glue on my rocks & then placing them back in the tank. The aiptasiaX stuff is brill, you just inject a small ammount of fluid into Aip & it kills it off almost instantly, it's not cheap, about £15 / $20 but it will last you forever. I seriously would recommend it.

People super glue coral frags all the time. The lemon huice kills them pretty quickly as well. I hope I didn't screw up, but, I did a lot of reading up before I did it. I'll keep your advice in mind, though, and I think I will pick up some of that X incase there's more.
