My first saltwater setup!

Just wanted to show my first setup. Not much there yet. 72 gal. Oceanic bow. Has been setup for a week at my house, but everything in the tank was setup at someone else's house for the past year until i bought it last week. I plan on joining seasl soon. Are there any frag swaps, cheap frags, or donations or something where i can get some good starter corals? Look forward to chatting and picking your brains with questions. Thanks, Ed.

Does anyone know what the small bubbles are from on either side of the shrooms?

Looks like a nice start. We just had a frag swap last month and there's another one in the fall. But there's always people selling/trading frags on here.

nice start, I will sell a very rare coral for a reasonable price. Its called a Kenya tree coral, likes moderate light, moderate movement. perfect for your tank. ...ok actually I'll give it to you. Roy gave it to me now, I have slightly less than a billion in my tank now.

If your intersted I have another rare coral called GSP. very nice green color. thats another one thats free :)

I must have aquired a very prolific variety of Kenya tree. No wonder HIV spreads rampant in Africa!

no wonder everybody give "it" away.

Looks like you're off to a great start! I can give you a finger leather for a Coke & a smile. :)

Our May frag fest was our big blowout "end of season" meeting. The hobbyists tend to slow down over summer and SEASL takes an official break.

However, we'll have some store tours in the coming months which usually offer some great discounts. Head over to http://www.seasl.org/NA_newAccount.php and create an account to receive email notifications of our meetings & events.

if the DSB was not disturbed, and the rocks never got dry, you could cycle a tank in a week, i guess its possible.

Have you checked the n/n/a? if so what are the levels?

tests

tests

The sand and water has been up for a month with some established sand from another tank added at start. The rock is established 1 year, in my tank for 1 week. Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate all test zero now. Temp usually 79. salinity 1.023...I bought an established system that was struggling from lack of care and low light. I have upped the light some, plan on getting T5's in a couple months. I just transfered everything to my tank except his sand bed. Now the couple corals that came with the system are doing great and recovering well. Went from 2 green striped shrooms to 8 in a week. From one Ricordia to 5 in a week. Not all new growth i am sure but they could not be seen at first because everything was struggling from the previous owner. I plan on doing 20 gal. water change every 2 weeks, more if i notice any spikes. Thanks to everyone on RC the tank is doing great! It will be even better with the few corals i am picking up this week from a couple seasl members. Each month i plan on adding some more LR and Corals until i am happy with the looks. This is just the start. I came over to salt water from the Discus side.

Congrats to you...the tank looks great. I'm doing the opposite from you; My 135g SW tank crashed when we were remoddeling at home, and I am going to Discus.(Looking for a 155g to plant and keep Discus). Best of luck to you, keep up the good work.
