After a week of refusing to eat he just died.
found him on the sand behind my rockwork, his little orange body really stood out.
Its too bad he was a real beauty...
I dont know what the problem was , they are supposed to be raelly easy to keep ,right?

Oh man that is horrible! Sorry to hear that. They are one of my favorite fish. Actually will be the first fish I get after I move to my 55. I've been wanting one since I started this hobby.

Was it a new fish that just didn't eat?

It was new at my LFS but if I didnt grab him quickly he would be gone.

He was one of the most beautiful flames I ever saw...

I did see him eat at the store but once he was with my Tang gang he just wouldnt eat.

Wow that's a shame. I love them. Do they have a guarantee? Maybe they can get you another. He must have been sick. Or maybe afraid to eat with the tangs around. Did they attack him over food? I hear they are not very aggressive. Just beautiful fish.

They do have a guarantee and I'm going today to get another one but I already saw him when I was there last week, he is not as beautifull as the one who died, but they tell me he is a crazy eater, eats everything you put in tank.
Sometimes its better to comprimise on a fish that is really active and eating , over a one who is just stunning in beauty.

I hope this one will make it, I think the Flame angel is such an attractive addition of color to any reef aquarium.

We are all sorry. I will take extra care of my tanks in its honor. Don't let it discourage you. good luck! and keep reefing.

Sorry about your loss. I recently lost mine, too - I suspect an ammonia spike was to blame, though. I have read that flame angels are not considered to be all that hardy anymore. Don't know if that is true...

Thats really too bad! Flame angels vary in their hardiness from where they were collected to atleast some degree. One's imported from Hawaii tend to do better according to several of my friends and some websites. I hope the new guy lives.

Ive stopped trying to keep a flame as well - had one in the UK that seemed to be buletproof - have tried a couple here and they both eventually stopped eating and withered away.

Location of collection is everything with Flame Angels, and most Angels for that matter. Odds are your Flame came from the Philippines and there's a pretty good chance drugs were used in its capture. At the very least the holding facilities and shipment may have been poor enough to make your fish a goner. Ultra bright coloration in fish has actually been attributed to cyanide collection by some people, so that's sometimes a reason for concern rather than a reason to snap it up right away.

Aww. I'm sorry about your loss. :-( I had one, she was so fiesty, I had her for about eight years. She died when I had to move and give her to someone else. Chin up hon.

Sorry for your loss.... Hope your new one makes it o.k. One quick question. Did you quarantine it or put it right in the main display? If you quaratine it first that will give it a chance to rest and get used to your feeding habits before entering it's new home. Also will give it some time to recouperate from being collected and transported.... Good Luck and hope all goes well. Keep us updated....

Here's a pic of mine in honor of your loss.... Best pic I could get right now. They do not sit still long...
