My Growing Ric Garden

Kharn

MANTISMAN
For a while now I have been collecting the cheapest and more lower quality Ric's I could find most of what you see are around the $30-$40 mark with the big ones being twice that, the only Ric that I perceive personally to exceed them all is the lone dull orange one that's sitting up high which set me back $150.

I've got hopefully 3 'true' Ultra Rics incoming within the next week or 2 but the 3 of them together are going to set me back a tad over $500...

P.S. I took these pics after I did a slight clean of the tank, sucking up some annoying algaes, I disturbed the Rics slightly so they closed up a bit, will post pics again once they open.

This is my biggest Ric obviously a Yuma fairly plain nothing special xD...

This is the Stomatopod (Mantis Shrimp) that lives in the garden. :D

:)

Picked up this Ricordea a few hours ago and its just getting comfy in its new home now, it has taken the spot that my larger dull orange Ric sat upon (the dull one dropping down a plateau in the tank).

Its not very large maybe 1-1.5 inchs once fully open and it set me back $275.

The resident Stomatopod Nicole is already aggressively defending it from the camera. :lmao:

It is without doubt my nicest and brightest Ricordea...for now, within the next couple of days I should get a pair that might put even this bright one to shame :D...

Nice!

This is 1 little Ricordea...
In 1 little Compartment...
In 1 of the smallest tanks...
Within the smallest of the 3 systems...

:lol2: I have a long and very expensive road ahead...

In fact I have 10ft Long x 1ft Wide x 1ft Tall....to go/fill.

Granted it's not going to be alllll Ric's I don't think I could afford to fill that space with Ric's alone in 1 life time whilst living in Australia...

I'm guessing ric prices in Australia are high? I get what I personally believe to be nicer pieces for around $10-$20 a shroom. Who knows, maybe I'm talking out my butt and you have the holy grail... $275 just seems like a lot for what you got in return. (even though it's very lovely!)

If it's normal in Australia, I feel for you. Best of luck with your collection, that mantis shrimp is very spoiled. :)

[edit]
I just read your other topic, so it is the normal market in Australia. Wow, that is depressing. At least you can frag them up and trade / maybe sell to recoup some of the investment.

very cool

Thanks :p

Awesome tank! Sorry if I missed it but what sp mantis is that? Very beautiful!

It's a species that shouldn't be collected and thus I should likely not speak of it, there are other equally colorful and far more interactive species like G.graphurus that are absolutely perfect for aquariums. :)

It is really crazy...when I said the price of gold I looked it up but due to my lack of "financial world knowledge" I didn't really understand it (was looking for my countries price per "weight") and I swear...Ricordeas down here are close to literal GOLD...

Beautiful photography, very nice Ricordeas even the one you say is plain and not special its beautiful. I love the color of it very different.

Here is my other mushie compartment its dominated by Rhodactids and Orange Morphs...This compartment is a bit off finishing...I do not want to see the substrate base just orange morphs and I don't want to see the wall just a wall of Forest Fire Rhodactids. :)

The wall took less then a day to make :D

That wall is neat! Very cool idea. :eek1:

The wall is the 2nd generation of my DIY PVC Burrows primarily designed to host a Stomatopod with and secondary use as a place to host various corals.

In the end the idea is that people will need to look twice to realize that the wall is man-made :).

The other reason for the new design is to get back lost space with this design I have gained back 2inchs of depth. The other problem I would have in the past with the 1st Gen burrows was that it is easy for live prey to disappear behind things thus the camera misses everything....there is no where to hide now.
