My haddoni is a girl!!! Cigars for everyone!!!

They call me EC
Came home from work to find my haddoni acting weird. She was shaped like a bowl, you couldn't see her mouth, and the crab was parked right where her mouth is. I thought this was odd, so I took some pics.

Then I noticed the female clown venturing much further away from her anemone than normal. I started looking a little closer, and noticed she was eating something. I figured the shrimp were spawning. Then this happened.

Naturally, when you really need your batteries to work, they don't. I did manage to snap this short video before they died though.

Excellent ! It must be so satisfying knowing that the conditions you've provided are good enough for it to spawn. How large is it ?

I hope you saved some of the eggs. I beleive anemones can hold fertilized eggs inside of them for long periods of time and release.

I had a bubbletip release orange colored eggs in my tank, not sure if they were fertilized but the ones that landed stuck on.

Thanks yawl.

Ya, we need to get your male and my female together.:love1:

That would have been interesting - a blue male and green female -- too bad I lost it to a bio-active salt experiment.

But, even though my spawned due to stress, it showed the same trumpeting behavior.

That is sweet! I like to see this happening in a aquarium. I think that this could be a great thing in the future for us all if we could get them reproducing hehe

PS>Is there a way to figure out if yours is a male or female before seeing this actually happen with any of our carpet anemones? I am just curious if anyone has figured out that uncharted area yet

Great looking anemones. I keep multiple species of anemones in my tank too but I run carbon all the time. I don't change it too often. Best of luck with getting a boy to go with your girl.

Thanks.

I tried to collect some of the eggs from the filter sock this morning, but it didn't work. I've had this anemone for years, so I don't think they could remain fertile that long anyway.

Super cool! Congrats!

That's awesome, free buffet for everyone... LOL...

Awesome documentation

It's at times like this that I absolutely love this forum. :D Congratulations!

Thank you all.
Everyone did eat well. I was actually worried about my female percula. She's normally back and forth between the gigantea and magnifica, but today she just laid in the gigantea like a fat man after Thanks Giving dinner. LOL

Awww Dude that sucks. He was a beautiful animal. It does make you wonder what the little ones would have looked like.

Very cool
Thank you.

We have nothing concrete. I had no idea what mine was until after she spawned. I honestly don't think there is any outward signs that determine sex.
