My Hawaiian Pygmy Seahorses from Ocean Rider came in!

They came in today! These guys really are tiny! They'll eventually grow up to 3 inches long. I got 3 pairs, two pairs are of a good size and look like adults, the 3rd pair looks a bit juvenile, but thats not really a problem. One of the females is a bright red color, I attached a photo of her.

The packaging was done well, although it worried me there was no ice pack. But all seahorses did come in fine and they look healthy. They initially sent the package to my billing address and not my specified shipping address as I requested. I ended up going home and skipping out of work for the whole day. Oh, and they didn't put my apartment number on the shipping label either, so that was another hurdle. Anyway, they are acclimating smile.gif

Congratulations on your new charges.
However, they are NOT pygmy seahorses.
Most pygmies don't get to an inch, and, are not able to be kept by a hobbyist.

I agree. I have photographed true pygmy seahorses and they are definitely tiny.

Sorry for the late reply, Yup! They were quick to hunt for copepods but the moment they saw mysis they go straight for it. I don't even need a special kind like OR recommend, I have reidi and feed them PE mysis. I save the smaller ones for the fisheri. The bigger of the 3 pairs can eat a whole mysis, the smaller ones will snick at one and rip it apart until its gone. They seem super robust. Will share photos in a bit. Putting them up on flickr at the moment.

That is awesome. I was thinking of trying them myself. How large of a tank are you keeping them in? Hope to see more of your pictures ...they are beautiful!

Looking good man! Lucky they eat frozen! I had to feed mines opae ula...

yeah but yours were bigger, much much bigger lol. These guys are tiny. They'll double in size soon I hope. And I suspect, feeding them the opae ula helped with the red coloration of yours. These guys are brown with the exception of the one female who is red.

OR recommends a large deep tank... but these guys are soooo freaking small. I have them in a 10 currently. To make sure they were eating and such. I have a 40 gallon breeder I can put them in after I observe then doing well.

Hmm could just be that they are young.. Every larger one that I have seen was either red or yellow. Never saw any large brown ones. Do u know if you have true pairs?

I see lots of courting, I did witness 1 pair dancing and spiraling, and eventually dropped eggs. So 1 pair is definitely trying. However, they seem to courting constantly through out the day. Among the 3 pairs, some one is always courting. I don't think any of them are preggo yet tho.

They must be well adjusted and settled in their tank to court so much! Good job.
