So I want to keep it in the water column? hmm. I figure settle out and vac out was the best option. I'll toss a power head in there and see what happens. Still breaking in this skimmer so not getting much skimate yet.

I have the strut hammer drilled and flush shell bolted to the ground. I put a bit of pl400 under it too so it didn't resonate.
The sound is all the motor, once I isolated the rest of the return from touching things, lol.

If the vibration you feel touching the base of the motor it a 10, and touching the ground that has no vibration is zero, then the strut is about a 1-2. I can tell it is vibrating but hardly anything at all.

I just have to figure out soft mounts for holding the return up the tank.

I think you should keep it and keep moving forward.

So much relaxation and inner peace once done and sitting back watching it.

Yes there will always be some tuning and maintenance. In this journey there is always something to tweak.

Patience is a skill, not something given.
 
Everything is looking good. I totally agree with worm and the power head. That going against the 3000 GPH flow in the sump will pretty much keep most of the detritus and other organism afloat.

But wanted to say, for return pumps. I wish I had went for 2 DC pumps instead of this one big hammerhead pump. And If I can find a couple of nice DC pumps I may just make the change still.
Anyone have ideas?
 
I have two dc12000 and I love them!! I just put them in 2 weeks ago. Replaced my return pump, but I needed more power anyway, feeding a 120g DT also.

12,000 lph is what about 3000 gph. A couple of those should be enough for me, although two for you seems like a lot.
They are cheaper than I thought too.

I've really been neglecting it, had a period where I thought about shutting it down, and another of going fish only. But now that my basement is starting to come together and get finished I am already enjoying the fruit of my labor more so it's easier to get into it again.
 
Good... Yes it is a labor of love.. You have to keep it up though.

I'll be picking up a few fish tonight hopefully.
Blue throat trigger pair, and some pretty wrasses. So I will get pictures once they are in.

Also going to be adding a small island for zoas in the middle open area on the sand, just like a single rock.

Bringing in another Magnifica Anemone as well, although might take a couple weeks.

Planning on changing my Hammerhead pump to dual smaller pumps to reduce the noise, but they need to be external, so makes it a bit harder it seems.

Planning on using a Tunze 7095 controller for my powerheads too, just on the hunt for one.

And researching a Calcium reactor or Balling method, so that I can put a bunch of corals in and get the tank looking pretty. I don't think I am going to focus on the high end hard to keep SPS this time though. Get a few that look good and grow fast and have them grow in several spots, realizing I don't need 100 different types of SPS, a handful of different ones should be nice and much easier to care for.
 
Ok just picked up the following

Blue throat pair
Queen angel (I know, bad, bad)
Shark fin Noako's fairy wrasse
McCoskers Wrasse
Lubbocki Wrasse

They are all either moving way to fast, or hiding, so taking a picture is difficult.

The queen is about 3" and just way to nice looking to pass up. It'ss probably have to go by 7"

Reason I ask a friend did not on one fish and got ICK/Marine velvet and lost everything.

Just asking.

How do they look though?

Everything looks great. I'm not too worried. My tank isn't ick free, although I have not seen any signs of it since I added the purple tang 8 months ago.

beautiful tank...

I've always wondered with in wall builds, are you concerned about humidity with the exposed framing and unfinished drywall? The pond spray foam may work to fill the gap, but a rubber or neoprene strip might look more finished and a tighter seal.

My luck I would be dropping joint compound in/on the tank while trying to tape around it lol

I have a euro braces top, so put some closed cell foam in the gap, it's pipe insulation from lowes. Creates an air tight seal from the inside to the outside. I used the plastic drywall "corners" on the bottom of the drywall, so the foam seals the glass and that plastic.

I'm using an exhaust fan for a bathroom to keep the room from getting too humid. It's warmer and more humid than the rest of the basement, but not enough to feel it on the walls or anything like that.

I finished the part above and close to the tank before putting water in the tank, and probably won't finish the rest. I figure once I finish the rest of the basement it'll close off all the little air gaps the room has and create a pretty good negative pressure in the room.
I have the fan interlocked with my furnace, so the exhaust fan shuts off when my furnace kicks on.


This is the foam, and a screw I didn't quite paint enough I guess.
