still trying to see how photobucket is tearing up all my pics... More investigation necessary...

Looks awfully familiar! Aren't these 30g tanks? Only reason I ask is I believe we're tank brothers.

Are you going to run glass on the top? I've been using it to reduce evap, and keep critters from jumping out. I'm also looking at some optical clarity acrylic to make a new top / radion stand. :-D

We have light!!!

I still can't, for the life of me, figure out how to get an image link that works on both desktop and cell phone (if posted from my cell phone). Getting annoying!

Yes, the RL30 is 30g, you just have to ignore the NC28 title that was my previously setup tank... :)

I've run open top for years, and while I have lost some livestock over time, to me it's worth the aesthetics. Evap is handled by a Tunze ATO with 2.5g topoff so is not a concern.

An acrylic / glass top isn't going to work like you would hope. I had one on a 3g pico and even that would warp over time being as small is it was. You will get major warping, condensation accumulation, salt buildup, light blockage, etc. It's overall just not a good idea IMO and IME.

Yep. I'm in the same boat, same with quotes! :furious:

Awesome - I've been trying it with a space between the two panes, which has helped a lot with salt creep, but may be defeating the purpose of reducing evap. Other concern is kitty, avatar on my left. I'll probably run topless soon as well

Bambam is back at home!! Got a little nervous cause once she was in the tank her and JP went straight into fighting. After a few minutes of chasing and dodging he realized she was twice his size at least and started to give some of the distinctive clown "roll on your side and quiver" submissive hints. Some quarrying went on but they seem to no have at least a partial pair and are sleeping in the same spot together. I give it a few days before they are a full blown mated pair.

Someone was naughty at the LFS today! :)

Went and got a 2nd MP10wES and figured I may as well go in on a ReefLink while I could get it at 50% off. Still waiting on the wireless board for my old MP10ES but after playing with the EcoSmart Live beta software and the ReefLink it should be pretty neat!

Also picked up a fireshrimp. More pics to come!

Ugghhh... Big bummer having to take down a tank for a move.

In regards to the dead SPS bases, I honestly believe a single Radion should be more than enough to make a tank of this size thrive (You may not even need to use the full spectrum), I urge you to look into other aspects (Under or Over feeding, Water parameters or even maybe too much light intensity). We all know SPS are very susceptible to less than perfect conditions.

the new equipment is looking sharp!

Hey Juan, I agree it was quite an ordeal!

And the Radion IS more than enough for this tank, I've had great success with it over the years since it was released (I have one of the VERY early Gen 1's and bought it through an early release). I had great luck not only growing out big and beautiful SPS colonies but also softies and clams. The dead bases I refer to was on bigger colonies and you could distinctly tell that it was from shading. Would the MH/T5 combo be better in this area? I'm confident it would but how much better I don't know.

I really wanted to try an MH/T5 combo just to gather data and really have a 1-to-1 comparison. What can I say, I can't avoid that engineer instinct in me!! In the end I couldn't give up that adjustability of the Radion and it's hanging over the tank once again. And now with the ReefLink and another MP10 I have even more cool EcoTech toys to play with.... :)

It has been something being discussed amongst reef keepers lately, is undeniable that earlier LED fixtures need T5 as complement for better coloration.

I'm getting ready to build a similar setup (Abandoned some time ago) so watching your progress gives me extra motivation.

I wish you the best of luck :)

Thanks Juan!! Will look for your thread so I can keep up with your progress as well.

Bowser the fireshrimp is starting to get a little bit more social! And the tank is starting to finally get a bit of an algae bloom so need to work on getting my CUC lined up. I'm planning on 8 astrea, 15 nassarius, and 3 turbo snails. A similar combination worked out well in the old tank.

Spent some time cleaning out the old HOB-1 with vinegar and a good scrub to get it to brand new state. Took a little tinkering to get it working correctly on the new setup but figured it out without having to buy anything additional to the stock parts.

Also after some tank cleaning today and recent history decided the display was way too full. There was splash over with both MP10's, plus barely sticking my hand in to the wrist bordered on spillage. My last tank worked with both stock Accella 266gph pumps running full-time because of the flow loss due to the chiller which I have yet to implement on this tank. Decided to hook up my old JBJ wavemaker to alternate the pumps and am much happier with the lower flow and display volume. Also think the alternation adds even more to the mixed MP10 flow from the back wall.

Otherwise all is well in the tank. Still 0 on all organics through daily testing. Skimmer is pulling mostly clear water. First water change is tomorrow after changing all RODI filters including the membrane and mixing a fresh batch of new water. Yes, first water change after a month, but realized they aren't all that important after letting my last tank sit for 9-mo with healthy corals and fish without a single WC. it's also been so long since making my own water I had to look up how much salt to add, lol!

Anyway, a long rant. But have my wireless board being shipped for my old MP10 to enable full wireless sync with my ReefLink. Also working on reactor setup next. Clowns are fully paired now as well.

Tank as it exists today:

Also a night pic of the clowns sleeping together. The male has been giving tons of the "seizure" type gestures to my old female BamBam. Looks like they are now fully paired. Can only imagine what offspring would look like, could only think a few of them would be just short of epic. But maybe I'm crazy.

Better DSLR pics to come soon hopefully!

Niceee skimmer! I'm running the JNS-WS1 version of that one, it's a fantastic skimmer. Last week I must have had 6 ounces of dark, dark green gunk.

I like the setup of the MP10's on your tank! How are you going to run them? Anti-sync?

That's the same MP10 setup i did on my 28g nanocube and it was great. The acros loved it. (ive since moved my hardware to my 60g cube with the same setup working great)

Yep, been a great skimmer in the 3-yrs I've been running it. Only problem I ever had was when I snapped the impeller when cleaning it. No fault of the hardware obviously, just operator error. Originally planned to run anti-sync but the ReefLink enables tons of programming options so will mix it up between modes and run both sync, anti-sync and all kinds of different profiles throughout the day.

Awesome to hear and glad to see you still around here after all these years! Will have to go find your 60g to check it out!

Well the second RF board came in for my old MP10 so I am now fully wireless via the ReefLink. I wasn't sure if it would be worth the money honestly, but sync'ing Radion to both MP10's and the extra programmability you get on the Vortech's is totally worth it so far. Not to mention never having to lose one of those rubber USB plugs on the Radion ever again... ;) Plus I only paid $100 for it since I bought at the same time as my 2nd MP10.

So far I have a mix of tidal swell, reef crest, and lagoon running though the day at varied intensities and always in anti-sync. Still playing with it as I find the software to be just a bit buggy while still in beta phase. Will be great once the app is released and I can fully control from my android tablet.

Also threw in 2 astrea, 2 trochus, and 10 nassarius snails for my CUC. May supplement later but probably stick to snails on this tank. Also added a couple heads of pink/green rics to continue with getting my ric rock restarted along with one of the orange ones from my old tank.

First water change was yesterday. More pics to come soon.

LFS' shouldn't be open on July4, but mine was so I accidentally bought a Gen3 Radion. Yes yes, I talked about switching to MH/T5 but apparently I am re-committed to LED and fully on the EcoTech bandwagon.

It's actually a pretty noticeable difference in spectrum, I didn't anticipate that...
