My journey into filter socks

Just about to take all my sump equipment out for a top to bottom cleaning during my WC. Everything will be cleaned including the sump which has a thick layer of detritus. Its a 4 year old tank and have always relied on my skimmer for filtration. I just can't handle the glass of the DT needing cleaning daily. My order from Incredible aquariums came in with filter socks and holder, so my journey into filter socks starts tonight. Wish me luck.

I left the last section of pvc unglued to be able to change socks.

How's your journey so far? Can you tell us the difference without the socks and now with the socks? Do you require less cleaning on the sump and the sump stay clean?

It was a huge difference in the sump as far as cleaning. They need to be changed out every 3 days but it really helped keep the nitrates down. I did remove them a few weeks ago, I have been having a hard time with my cal, alk, mag. They just won't drop! I don't have a lot of corals but they have always dropped steadily before, I think it started since I stopped running gfo.
