MANTISMAN
G'day all
A few days ago you may recall (if you read the thread) that I had just purchased my first Peacock Mantis well today it got delivered and is currently acclimatizing to its soon to be temporary new home. It is as they stated at around 100mm long but they didn't say it would look so nice xD it really is a stunner putting my other more dull colored smashers to shame...
However it is yet to interact in anyway as I am sure its still feeling a bit 'edgy' after the almost 24hour transportation, that was the one thing I did NOT like about dealing with this mob, they wouldn't let me pick the animal up from which ever airport it landed in (as I would of preferred to and by doing it cut the transit time in nearly half...) and the packaging it came in was kind of mediocre... when I saw the box initially I was instantly like "Yep its dead"...in comparison to how my other large spearers came (they couldn't of done better on the spearers huge styrofoam box huge bags and bracing within the box/bags, none of that on this poor peacock).
Anyway it arrived safely, unfortunately another mate of mine didn't pull through with the "safety tank" that I was going to get off him so it left me hanging with NO WHERE to put this new peacock....so I just got back from the LFS with a couple of "reptile tanks" there the typical style ones that are designed for a smasher to break out of....let alone a 4inch peacock....
So how to mantis proof it ?
So far my plans are to basically slide 2 of the containers into one another therefore reinforcing one another (they fit together really well likely for storage in stores). I am also considering lining the inside of the container with White Plastic Egg Crate hopefully preventing the peacock from directly striking the paper thin plastic sides....I'll post some pics shortly.
Unfortunately the container I got are somewhat larger then normal species containers and won't fit in the sump....so its going to have to go in the compartment of either Morgoth or Leviathan xD lol....
The mate with the safety tank that I was supposed to get today is the one with the G.falcatus too so I haven't heard back from him yet so I don't really know about the G.falcatus or whether he still wants to get rid of it.
