My LED sps experience shared!

bro how high did you leave your led fixature ? my corals are kinda of very bleached .

i am using maxspect 2x 160W

This technology as well as any other light change requires patience and start slowly----IT REQUIRES PATIENCE________________!

I'm running my units 12 inches above the surface but my tank had 400 watter before. The higher the better and progressively change the height as your corals adjust-is my suggestion.

when do you know it is time to lower the lights ?

is it ok to set it at 16 inches ? will maxspect be still strong enough for my tank : 4x2x2 Ft ?

i am using 2x maxspect 160W

gasman your results are what we are all after. Nice job my friend! Can you post your Profilux "Illumination Overview" screen shot? Here is mine.

Note, it is a work in progress...I just got my Sol Blue's and I'm ramping up to full power s-l-o-w-l-y. Right now I have them set up where the blue's max out at 65% and the whites at 45% less the "Rainy Day" setting where I have them shaded 20%. Every other day I will decrease the setting by one percent. This will give me a solid 40 days to get my SPS's adjusted to the new lights.

Its a trial and error situation I would sytematically change the height to your desired one over a period of 4-6 weeks.

Help me out- I'd be my pleasure to do it but I need some help to acomplish that post, LOL.

Since what date has your tank been lit by LEDs? Am I right in thinking it is since 24 July 2010? (About 4 months total?)

Some more

Some more

I wnated to share some more pics before I do some major re-arranging of the rockwork and so forth. And the corals show some of the stress.

For a while i've been wanting to go barebottom and reduce some of my extra LR. The substrate has me thinking for a while-- I may very well do that in the coming weeks or days so wanted to share one last series of pics before I do my re-arrnaging.

Again the LEDS will have a chance to prove their worth when I do decide to make this change since stress on the SPS is gonna be HIGH>

Not sure what OS you are using so here are tips for XP, Vista and Windows 7.

Thanks in advance for sharing.

As close as an example i can give u-- this stag has been fragged 30 times at least.

Woow that is a sure sign that leds work. How many months did it take for you to frag 30 times?

Great tank by the way.

Well between me sticking my hands in and :hammer: breaking it vs frags to friends 6-7 months.

Thank you very much for sharing this. Im tired of reading and hearing about how leds cannot grow sps and how colors will suck. I myself have made the switch from a powermodule fixture. Im getting good growth and every week colors seem to be improving.

You have an awesome setup! Please keep updating.

Would it be possible to change the intensity instead of the height of the light to yield the same result?

Sure the lights can be changed in intensity-- but the spectrum is not to my liking when they are bvoth at 100%( meaning blue and white).

I'm running SOL white-- need to tyr some of the SOL blue with the extra blue LED perhaps that's an option.

But granted they are extremely powerful at 100% in terms of par IME.

Thx -- I will post some more pics to document-- currently making some changes in my tank to deal with a bout of fish disease.

I will be removing my substrate and removing 60% of my rock to display some of my biggest colonies( that are held elsewhere currently) in the barebottom setup, that will certainly make this lights prove themselves since many corals will be lower in my tank when all is set and done.
