Lookin good. I guess you can say, one mans trash is another mans treasure. Great job on recycling the material from the old tank.

berniegermie: Thanks I wish I could take credit for the sump. All I can take credit for is the internal baffles. The sump itself was bought used from the guys at Mystic Reef.

CarlitosReef: I agree. MDF is a great material to use. My wife and I cleaned the sump with 6 gallons of vinegar and 6 gallons of water. Then I hooked my used Chiller to my used Eheim 1262 and ran the water vineger mix for 3 days on all of the pieces including one of the skimmers that I have. It worked real well and smelled like colored easter eggs!

Solitude 127: Thanks, it was actually less expensive for me to buy that and a blade and cut it up for use..... The only real bad part, was the plexi from the tank was horribly bowed....

euphoricgear: Thanks. The stand will be all white inside, and all black trim around the doors. Then I am going to wrap it in Maple with flush inset doors. I think I am going to fix the doors to the stand with magnets..... So, no hinges!

TheDon,

I have a choice of two:

I have an ASM G-3 with a sedra 5000 pump - Rated for 250 Gallons
I have a Coralife 220 - Rated for 220 Gallons.

I made the sump space fit the ASM G-3. This looks to be the better skimmer.

I got them both used from the guys at Mystic reef and they both got the vinegar treatment to clean them.

The Corallife looks brand new.

The ASM not clean enough yet to photograph.

To all: Which do you think will be better to use now? I will need to use one of these and I know there are alot better skimmers for a lot higher price....

So I thought I would give you a rundown of what I intend to use:

Also, I thought it would be nice to give credit to the people I have bought equipment from for this build:

Almost everything about this build is used.

Used tank from Joseph. Jmahfouz
Used Chiller from Neil. Sixshot00
Used Pump from Chuck. Moonpod.
Used sump from Mystic Reef. Jeremy and Adam.
Used Skimmers from Mystic Reef. Jeremy and Adam.
Used light from All Delight. (I am sorry I cannot remember your name! Your light was actually the first piece of equipment I got for this build)
Used light from Mystic Reef.

I bought Cadlights 24" 150 HQI w/T5 and LED. Bought both of them used. I plan to use Phoenix 20K's in them.

All in all, the whole tank is used except for the stand.

So.... It is kindof hobbled together....

I did this because I want to get a Controller...... Maybe I will find one used!

So far so good! Love that sump..... looks practically new! Can't wait to see the tank in the room, love new tank setup threads.

House 64 - Thanks, we cleaned it up real well. I owe my wife for that!

Jmahfouz - Thanks Joseph.... Since this was your tank, you know how long I have been in the planning and buying stage. I gotta tell you I can hardly wait to get the stand finished so I can start the test run and the rock work.

King Nikon - I will sell you the coral life for what I have in it. I bought it for 60.00 from the Mystic Reef Guys. I cleaned it up real nice. Plus, the pump is in excellent working order.... So, it is yours for $60.00. PM me if you are interested.

Smalltime - Not quite in this application. What I have seen before is steel stands with Magnets mounted to the face of the skins. I think this will work real well for me because, I will inset the magnets in the door and the frame. This way, everything will be flush mount. Plus, remember, my doors will also be flush mount with the face frame.... So in effect, the magnets only need to hold the door from falling out and not down....

That being said, does anyone have a good source for magnets?

You can find rubber coated online but for your application I would think that most of the larger home improvements stores would have that.

Or something like Rockler.

Keep the updates coming!

Chalk one up for the G-3....

Actually sounds cooler!

Thanks Fishybeaner!

Just take care when removing the collection cup on those... the teeth that hold the cup in place chip really easy on the ASM skimmers. I used to have one that would cut me almost every time I tried to put it on or take it off.

Bean Machine - Thanks for the info. Last thing you want to do is cut yourself when you are handling the skimmate....

I am going to look for some magnets this evening.

More updates to come.... just hard to get anything done during the weekdays....

Maintenance on my existing tanks comes first....
then the pond.... with 40 koi....
then the dogs.... 1 great dane and 3 yorkies....
then the bird.... Pocket Parrot....

Anyway, I am waiting for mor laminate to finish the stand inside, then the outside and edges of the openings..... then I can start the setup because the shroud and doors will be removeable and can be added anytime.

More to come!
