My Leemar 90 Build.

Coming along real well! Can't wait to see this mature. I wish I wasn't so cheap and impatient with my build. Hopefully mine will look as good as yours even if I skimped with things like the sump. Keep it coming!

CaboKent, Thanks for the kind words. I think it will look real nice when we add the live rock aquascape on the right side of the tank!

Gveng, Thank you as well. I actually enjoy the aquascaping part very much.

Cediss, Dude, your stand is one of the nicest I have seen. It is really beautiful! I have been following your thread as well, but, I haven't seen your sump..... Did I miss it? At any rate, if your tank stand is any guage of how your whole tank will be, then, we will all be envious!

Question for all who cares to weigh in on this.....

Is a 20" deep tank to shallow to use a Hamilton Belize Fixture? It has (2) HQI 250's in it.

I was at SCRK last month and Lanny (RandyFolds) was talking about photoinhibition. I am worried that too much light would be a real possibility here.

I have a line on a light from Ariel in mississippi. I told her I would ask you all for an opinion and would get back to her on whether or not I would buy....

Please offer your opinion....

Depending what you plan to keep I believe it will be fine. My tank is 20" deep and I run 2-250w SE Radiums. One of my good buddys runs a 400w SE Helios on a 16" deep sps frag tank - He has amazing color/growth.
If you are only planning softies/lps I would imagine that 2-150w would suffice, and help cut some electricity costs. I was debating running 2-400w on my setup but decided to stick with the 250w for now.

Good Luck.

Andrew, Cool. I want a mixed reef.... so I will have some of all of them.

Are there 20K lamps available for HQI250?

I know there are 14K, but I want the 20K spectrum.

Yes - 250w 20k Double Ended bulbs

Ushio
XM
Aqualine AB
Hamilton
Reeflux
Pheonix

Check out Reef Geek dot com - they have a nice selection of bulbs with great customer service.

I have only used the Ushio 20k 250w DE, and the pheonix 14k 250w DE - So I can't really compare. Im sure if you do a search on ReefCentral for 250w DE bulbs there will be a thread with some comparison. I will link you if I find something.

Edit:

Heres one
Heres Another

Do you like Ushio or Phoenix better?

I've actually had both the Phoenix 14k and the XM 15k... and if you have supplemental lighting, then I would probably go with the Phoenix. If no supplemental lighting, then I'd go with the XM 15k or one of the 20k's.

Everything's looking great!

-Chad

Andrew, Thanks, I already checked them out. Seems like everyone leans more towards the phoenix 14K's.

Chad,

Thanks, I appreciate the compliment. Also, you also seem to be leaning towards the 14K. The fixture I am looking at has supplemental T5HO's.... Do you think that is enough to color up the MH's?

Ev'e and Keith

Keith, thanks for bringing the purple tang.

Hope you guys liked my setup!

Freaking loved your pond and your dogs! especially Tuesday!!! you got an awesome start man. it was good meeting you too. Thanks for the beer!

It was my pleasure. Thanks for the info on your stand and how you did certain things. Definitely going to be mimicking some of your setup. It looks awesome in person.

P.S. I agree with fishybeaner, you have an AWESOME pond setup.

Ev'e, Keith, and Mike, Thanks for the compliments.... I do have a menagerie of sorts....
4 dogs - (1 Great Dane and 3 Yorkies)
1 bird - (Pocket Parrolet)
3 Tanks - All reef.....
and of course my Pond..... 40 Koi....

I will post a couple of pics.... I built the pond with Block and 60 lb bags of concrete.... 500 of them.... Yep for all the math whizzes out there.... 30,000 lbs of concrete... I'll post a few pics while we are waiting for my tank to cycle.

By the way, I got my lamps for the icecap....

Sent my wife (Christygirl) to Ali....

She came back with the following:
3 ACTNIC Blue +
1 Coral Wave Purple
1 Aqua Blue
1 Hexarc German true daylight.

The Ice Cap has 3 circuits.
Circuit 1 is the moonlights. In this case, they are moonlight tubes of LED's. (Same size as a 54W T5.
Circuit 2 is (2) T5's - I put (2) Actinics in there and I use this as Dawn/Dusk
Circuit 3 is (4) T5's - I put (4) lamps here. The remaining Actinic, Aqua Blue, Daylight, and Purple. I use this as Daylight.

So, the moonlights and the Aquafuge run all night.
Then, The Dawn / Dusk over lap the moonlight by 1/2 hour. This runs all day.
Then, at 12:00 to 7:00 the daylight circuit comes on.

Did I mention that i love that Apex Controller?

My Pond....

My Pond....

Here are a few photos showing part of the pond build.

Here is where I started after I built the corner retaining planter.
picture.php

Here is after the planter is stuccoed and planted and I have started to shape the pond. Plus, I had to build the entire fence.
picture.php

Here is the pond mostly carved out. This pond is over 5 feet deep. It is in the ground at the back side and above the ground at the front side. This will make more sense in a few more pics.
picture.php

Here is where I started placing blocks and doing the first part of the cocret which is only the floors.
picture.php

Here, the shell is built, and the rebar cage is in, and the lathe is placed. It now gets a 3" thick coat of concrete all had to be done in one day.... I had 2 guys mixing and me placing. It has to be rough to take the next coat which is a mortar skin.
picture.php

More of the same
picture.php

Once the shell was complete, then a skin of mortar, then a skin of black pond paint which is kind of like black rubber. 80 a gallon..... 8 gallons. Then, Fill time Baby!
picture.php

Filled! Tuesday (the Great Dane Looking on and giving approval)
picture.php

Building the small deck..... A Place to feed the fish!
picture.php

Some of my Koi.... KooKoo is the orange and white fish in the front.... He is one of my originals and he has a deformed mouth so he is fun to feed!
picture.php

The Finished Product! Monk (the Yorkie) looking on! This picture is 2 years old so, all of the plants have matured now and it is really quite peaceful to just be out and around. I have ove 40 Koi. The last 10 were born in there.... I have not lost one koi throughout this process.... (Knock on Wood!)
Enjoy!
Apparently you can only have 10.... So the next post is the completed one.

Here is the final product! There is a lot of crap in the background that is no longer there like construction material and such.
