OK, a shout out to my LFS. Today I had to take my boss someplace so while she was doing her thing I decided to stop by my LFS, (a PETLAND mind you), and see what was there. I've picked up quite a few frags from this store, and the guy that runs the fish section was there. He usually gives me pretty good deals. Today I walked out with a small yellow leather frag, a orange pagoda with yellow polyps, and a tan monti frag with green polyps. Total damage was 21.00. What a wonderful day.:D

Which Petland??? The one in Fox Chapel?
Monroeville!

Ugh... Petland.. I will never support a place that sells puppy mill dogs, regardless of coral selection and price.

This thread is not about that. The Petlands here are privately owned. I personally know 2 owners. You live in Orlando and most likely can throw a stone and hit a fish store. We live in Pittsburgh, I'd need a Howitzer!

Do they sell puppies?
As I said this thread is not about puppies. This is Reef Central not Puppy Central.

Ok, forget it. I was merely stating why I won't support petland. Your thread was about how you like your petland, i merely showed an opposing view. Its a discussion forum.

I understand what your saying, but you have to understand what I'm saying also. In this area, about say a 100 mile radius, there are about 12 places I can walk into to buy stuff for my tank. There are 2 Petlands, 2 Petcos, 1 Pet Supply Plus, and most of the rest are mom & pop shops. MOST of the mom & pop shops have tanks full of HA and dead fish and I still go to them to see what they have. The trouble is they have very little. Petland does carry puppies, and I don't know where they get them and you can't positively know where this exact store gets theirs. This Petland also has more corals and fish than any other store in my area. Looking for a 12 in Clown Trigger. They have one( they want 450.00 for him, but they have one.) You can say not to support them, but then where could I get items for my tank!

It's probably a good idea to not put the name of the chain in LFS posts because the post will get derailed for one reason or another.

Nice purchase!

Gotta admit InLimbo87, puppy mills have at least one thing going for them- no where else can you get soooo much cute & cuddlyness in such a confined space?! :)

Just kidding, I won't support Petland either*. This is 100% due to the nearest Petland being 6 hours away.

I kid, I kid.

:lolspin: :lol2:That last sentence :uzi:

Some thing are just plain funny:D

jllndmb, i'm not going to wade into this issue, but if you do want more options re: places to shop in order to relieve any qualms about chain pet stores, you really should consider online shopping. there are several excellent online vendors of coral, inverts and fish. and the argument has been made that you're actually getting less-stressed fish, because online vendors eliminate the middleman shipping stress on the fish (LFS's) by shipping the fish directly from importer holding tanks to you. LiveAquaria has regularly received great reviews here on RC. I use them, as well as Saltwaterfish.com. MarineDepotLive.com seems to have a great selection of fish, but i think that they're still new-ish, so I'm waiting to let them iron out any potential kinks before I test them out.

Having lived in Pittsburgh for 4 years, i feel your pain about pet stores.
