My Macro Lagoon

I'm still new to salt so bare with me. Macro tanks are low maintenance and run on lower nutrients then say full blown reefs?

Hi, macro tanks are generally lower maintenance, and almost definitely more tolerant of changes and mistakes. They typically prefer higher nutrients than reefs, which is good since most people have the problem of too many nutrients.

A few new shots! All untouched and under daylights w/blues.

Halymenia sp. (I'm naming it Pink Dragon - it's a lot like Dragon's Tongue, but pinker and without any iridescence)

Frogspawn, made because I moved it but looking very colorful these nitrate levels! Actually much brighter in person.

Grandis doing good in lower light, need more light for better color though.

Sump shots too! Packed, I need to move more stuff up to the display.

The Hypnea and especially Ochtodes have been doing awesomely! I have one rock that's totally bare in my display, thinking about covering it in Ochtodes.

Amazing growth
What are you dosing and how often if you dont mind me asking

I'm dosing Kent Iron, Kent Iodide, dry KNO3, liquid KH2PO4, and just recently start Kent Trace Elements.
I get most of my ferts from GLA (http://greenleafaquariums.com/aquarium-fertilizer.html)
I dose daily when I feed the fish, to keep my nitrate around 15 (currently... much more.) and my phosphate at .4-.8ppm. Iron, Iodide, and trace I dose a little less than the directions on the bottle. Once I run out of Kent Iron I'll switch to a DIY iron solution and dose as needed.

Thanks for the reply
How did you figure out how much to dose of the kno3 and kh2po4? Are you using pps pro formula as a calculation ?

It has been (still is!) trial and error. Nutrient demand changes a lot depending on how heavily I've pruned, and what nutrients are deficient at the time (thus limiting growth in a macro that might take up other nutrients as well)
I've done PPS and EI in the past in freshwater, but I decided to just go for it this time around and feel out my tank. Knowing how your tank responds to different deficiencies is a big part. For example, if I let my nitrates go away completely, then I start getting a bit of cotton candy-type algae outbreak. If I let everything get out of balance, I get a lot of green spot algae on the glass. Iron too low, green macro growth is weak, yellow/translucent. If my levels are too high, inverts give telltale signs. If everything's perfect, I get little/no microalgae growth, glass stays cleans over the week, and inverts are happy.

I couldn't tell you signs of over/under dosing iodide or trace. I just dose them to hopefully keep them from being limiting factors, and occasionally stop dosing them for a few days to let any excess hopefully get consumed since I can't test for them.

Got my orders in! Just threw them in the tank to settle and took a couple shots, will scape this weekend. They look good!

I also ordered a couple or porcelain crabs. They shipped five, one died and the rest came through okay. Even got a little baby! I hope the wrasses don't get him... Too little too late but I should have put him in the sump

Hey guys, sorry about the silence! I broke down the tank a few months ago so I could focus on other things for a while. Hopefully I gave a little jumpstart to the local macro scene though! Should be able to find most of my stuff floating around on SDReefs I hope!

My reef is infested with this horrid Mermaid's cup. I can't get rid of it to save my life. Help!

Oh no I can't believe you broke it down! Darn it was so beautiful! If you get back into it hit me up for some macro.
