My Magnifica Takes a Walk

So I have two H. Mags in my tank:

The green one has been in place since early sumer, and the red one since mid October. I thought all was good until...

We'll call this Day 1, January 31st.

Later in the day, he held on better, and showed me that he wasn't sick, but apparently wanted to try life as as a BTA.

And so it continued:

Until just before dark on day 2

And so for days 3-8...

I thought "ok, wierd, but at least he looks happy now" Well, not really.

The morning of Day 9, he hops the great sand divide, and begins battle with the GSP and the upper barrier of red Monti Cap

Until finally during the night of Day 14, he makes his move

And settles in with his new friends

I hope, finally, he is where he wants to be. He has stayed there for only 5 days, but I am hoping he was headed there the whole time, and won't move any further. Just thought I'd share. Thanks for reading!

Your little anemone's epic journey brought me to my first post! So much personality for an anemone, especially once it journeyed back to the same spot after obviously trying to move away.

Your first post is greatly appreciated! And yes, the irony is outstanding. The flow and lighting were the same, I even had an older H. Mag in that spot for months until I sold it, so there's no reason the red one should've moved. I think he just wanted to make friends with the green one!

This is interesting; I've had the same experience with magnificas grouping up. If I try to space mine out or place them separately they inevitably migrate towards each other until they are right on top of each other. I now just let them cluster together because they seem to prefer it. It's cool that you documented its little walk!

HAHA... I remember when mine took a walk around the WHOLE outside of my 120.

Just wanted to see where the flow went and came from I am sure... I guess either wanted to go upstream or downstream.. I don't remember now which way he was going. Plus I switched clockwise and counter clockwise flow once a day 12/12.

I guess the next question is what's going to take the Magnifica's place on the ledge?

Bradley watch this closely. I have seen magnificas jockey for best positioning on rocks.

The reason why i say this is that your little one went right over to the spot where your larger one was living life.

In the wild you find mags in groves or colonies mostly on flat rocks. In those cases they have room to group up. in your case the little one may begin to bother the larger. Watch out.

For now, it's an impromptu frag shelf, lol. I can't decide what I want up there now. Part of me wants to leave it kinda undecided in case I come across a Mag with a brighter red base. Or a blue base!!! :inlove:

Or, my LFS just got a 6 inch Mertens carpet, I could see how that goes, but it would NEVER be able stay on that little ledge. IDK... That, in fact is the question of the day. To be continued I guess, lol. Any suggestions?

I'll keep an eye on it, thanks. I actually had this happen with my last two. I had a purple base for a month, then added the green base shown above. They ended up both moving to that ledge on the right, then fought over it until I built up the middle and moved the green one over. They stayed happily separated for a few months until I came across a red-based one, and it just seemed like the red one should like the lede if the purple one did, but you could be on to something.

Good looking nems. Im hoping to spot a nice one to start off my 28 nano with,maybe at the frag swap. When he gets big enough I can always move him to the 120.

Mine have done this before too. I have found that it seems to irritate the original mag when the interloper arrives. Perhaps it's a desire to be in a community, but I had interpreted it more as a "hostile take-over", since it leads to the established anemone shifting around and sometimes moving.
