My Maroon's Finally Laied Eggs

feed more if you can. the nests will get larger and larger and she will need the etxra food. my gsm lays a nest about a silver dollar or bigger and the eggs are laid in a tight pattern. i got my temps up to 84 and my salinity is at 19ppm.

From what I understand they'll eat the eggs if the eggs aren't any good. Again, the first few batches generally aren't good because the fish are still "learning". Also, try feeding more as they need more food while they're breeding.

mine also remove most or all the eggs at first. either there is something wrong with them, or not fertilized or whatever. they will stop removing them after they get their technique down. usually it takes like around 8 to 12 batches for them to get it down. could take longer too.

Well the male had eaten all but about 25 eggs . Hope the next batch will be better . My Rotifer is so thick i now have abot 10 gal worth . Is is possible for me so split the Rotifer and put into the same ten gal that the Fry will be in so that way when i add the next batch of eggs then they all ready have rotifer to eat if this makes any sense please let me know as this is what i would like to do .

Well my wife rotifer and my fry tank out side so i set this up out side can any one give me some pointers on keeping it warm i have heaters . and i was thinking about useing carpet around the hole thing even hanging from the metal rack . Do you think this will work here is a pic

I would not try to culture rotifers in the tank you plan to grow out the babies. I would wait until the morning after they hatch to add rotifers. You don't want the rotifers adding a bunch of waste to the tank.

Also I would not have the tank setup until the day before the eggs hatched, I would use water from the parents tank to set up the grow out tank, not fresh made saltwater.

If the tank is located in a cold area I would add styrofoam insulation on the sides and bottom to keep the temp up and stray light out. If not I would would add a black bag to the sides and bottom so only light enters through the top.

Thank you so much the styrofoam idea is great thank you

So this time the group of eggs were layed today i was thinking they would have layed them last Wed so they are about 5 days off . This group of eggs is really tight and looks good . If i can see tiny white dots does that mean they are fertile?

If you arer seeing little silver specs at the top of the egg, those are the eyes. They will be silver and reflective.

And you DO NOT need to black out the sides and bottom. Its a common misconception that has been discussed here before. I actually have better luck with NOTHING on the sides and bottom. If the fry seem to be clinging to the side, you need to green up the water some.

So far I have used a blacked out 5 gallon tank, plain 5 gallon tank with clear sides/bottom, white bucket, and a 10 gallon tank with a clear glass divider (different age groups could see each other)

Thank you so much . They only thing i plan on useing is styrofoam for insulation around the tank as it is out side . do you have any more tips and tricks to this .

Well Today there is still a lot of eggs on the tile . however there are some that have been cleaned off the tile witch I'm sure mean they were bad eggs . I have noticed this time Mom is really fanning the eggs much much More this time not like the last 2 times . Dad is doing a really good job as well I have bump the temp up to 80 to help speed up the process .
