My Moonlight Setup (lots of pics)

Don't know if they are dimmable. I suppose you could connect a dimmer switch inline somehow though.

Again, not really on the list of what I was trying to accomplish. Just wanted to see the tank when the main lights went off. If you want less light, just use one bulb.

I wasn't thinking of dimming it for just less output. But if they are dimmable, then you can hook it up to a moonlight simulation program and have the lights represent the different phases (brightness) of the moon. Which is very cool.

I just read on some site that col cathode lighting technolodgy is dimmable 80-90%. Therfore, they can be run at 10- 205 brightness.

Very good info, thanks for posting this thread.

I just placed my order for this kit with the extra bulb and the power supply.

JohnRags1234,

Could you please post the site you mentioned. I'm trying figure out if the kit itself is dimmable or if you need to splice in something.

Many Thanks,

Sigma

Ill look for it.

I just ordered an 8" kit for a total of $14.25 including USPS express shipping.

The kit was just $9.95, and the same price for the 12" deal, but my tank is only 58g.....

If you want to check it out it is sidewindercomputers.com

EDIT: here is a 2 page PDF* on the dimmable applications of cold cathode lighting. It is amazing what a yahoo search can pull up;)

Thanks for posting this. I've been wanting to add a moonlight setup to my reef and this looks like a great solution. I ordered a set.

 Very cool. Now all you need is one of these glowing fans and you'll be all set. :p

j/k... that's a nice set up.

I just ordered 4 of them from PCMods (Red, Green, Blue, & UV for all imagineable night time viewing needs). :D It was after I was doing some research on the dimmablity of CCF that I stumbled on this site to discover this device that allows not only CCF dimming, but also CCF color "Mixing" (provided with RGB) enabling the user to create millions of possible colors. I dunno, Maybe I've been bitten by the 'reef bug' hard, but this sounds very intresting for a bunch of good "real-world" reasons. I'm gonna try it and "experiment" :) (just felt the urge to complicate my life). I will try and post pictures once I get it all setup and running (good reason to use my new camera:D )

Everyone just loves this idea for lighting! ;) I think it's pretty cool myself.

The 8" was only found (by me) at sidewindercomputing.com

Red light for night viewing

Red light for night viewing

So would a red light affect the nocturnal behavior of any of the animals?
