My Nano Doc skimmer is gurgling like a coffee machine.

Dear Roger.

I seem to have some problems with my 9002 skimmer. It has only been running for a couple of days, but still does not produce any foam. Instead it gurgles like an old coffee machine.

Is it normal that it takes some time before the skimmer works optimally?

Thanks,
Morten.

It is set too deep, water has entered the venturi hose. Raise the skimmer about 1cm, it may be necessary to disassemble the skimmer and blow the water out of the hose or wait a few days.

You can snap the top off pretty easily and just disconnect the hose from the nipple and blow through it.

I have tried that now, and it seem to work nicely. The skimmer is still quite noisy, but now it at least produces some foam.

It will take time for the water to work itself out of the air hose. The other thing you can try to remove the water is to unplug the skimmer, screw the adjustment screw closed all the way. Plug it in and then open the screw after some seconds. This will help but it will probably be about 3 days before the water is out completely.

It is working now, and though it is not completely silent, it is running as expected.

Thanks for the help,
Morten.

Very little, less than any other small skimmer I have used. Their is some noise from air entering the venturi and bubbling but it is far less than any other skimmer I know of.

Yeah, then only noise it makes now is a very low sound of air getting forced out of the cup. It is a very low whistling, and definitely not worse than my old airpump driven skimmer. I can not hear the powerhead at all.

/Morten.
