My Nanocube

Since it is your fist water change I'd shoot for 25%. I like doing a ~10% weekly thereafter.

I hope you have better luck with adding a pistol shrimp than I. I started with a YW like you and added a pistol a few weeks later. No pairing has occurred. If I could catch both, I would bring them back to the critter and get a Yasha goby and shrimp pair like Bill and others have gotten.

3/13/10 Update: Not too much occurring. I'm taking things slow as of lately. Or maybe because funds are low.

Anyhow, I used MVlk's advice on water changes. The first which I did last Friday was a 25%. I did my second yesterday, around 15%. Dosing here and there, all levels which I have test kits for test excellent. I do need to acquire a few specific kits to test certain other levels (i.e. phosphates).

I did go by AC this past Wednesday the 10th and picked up a Tiger pistol hoping he'd pair with my YWG. I acclimated the fellow, let him go in the tank and immediately the goby attacks the poor fellow. :hmm6: The shrimp just went to his own corner of the tank and immediately started causing a mini-tornado!:mad2: I wasn't too concerned reading it can take sometime for them to pair. Headed to work the following morning and came home later to see the two paired up and the YWG guarding as the shrimp tended to their burrow. They've provided me with hours of enjoyment.:fun2:

Other than that, the Xenia was moved up higher and in less flow. Growth is nothing short of great. It's actually already attaching to the rock. I'm sure in a couple months I'll regret it. The McCosker decided to become a acrobat and now tends to jump in the rear chamber. It's not too bad except for the fact one day he got back there and got stuck. I left him in there hoping he'd find his way back to no avail. Being I had to do a WC Friday I decided to clean the pump and removed all my media from the back (BTW added some Purigen as I've read a lot of good things) and finally netted him out. Actually he jumped, hit my arm and landed in the water. Whew!

Algae is basically gone. There are a few strands of hair algae on some of the rock but it could easily be removed. I'll let the CUC have something left to eat. Enough talking, no pictures. I'll try and do a video of the YWG/shrimp tomorrow. I need to invest in a good camera ASAP so I can post some decent shots.

Happy fishing, now

Always good to hear a nice success story. :) What do you mean by 'aqcuire a few specific kits...'? Are you doubting the ones you have now? I have the API tests for Nitrate, phosphate, ca and hardness tests. They seem pretty decent and have been verified against Salifert and others. Best part is you can buy them at the big chains pretty readily and cheaply.

Ah, just was saying. I use the API kits for most all my test. I just need a PH and Phosphate kit. Not sure if a ALk is needed as I'm not planning on SPS. I do find a couple of the cards hard to differentiate color but everything seems to work well.

For pH, buy a handheld probe if you do not have a controller with pH capability. I could never get an accurate read of pH from test kits. The handhelds are less than a couple test kits and soooooo much easier. IMO of course.

As far as Phosphate test kits go, Don't waste your money! I'm hoping the Club will Buy a Hanna Meter for testing as this Is what will give you an accurate reading. The kits read 0 even If you have a forest growing In your tank LOL

Thanks for the heads up Bill. I'm just wondering what mines test. I use R/O so shouldn't be an issue, but it never hurts to check.

Hey man I have lost your number for the k1 I'm going to be in the boro marro so just give me a shout and I will get it to ya

Here is a video of the shrimp/goby pair as promised.

3/27/10 Update: Whew, time seems to go faster than it actually has been with my tank. Still under the 2 month mark. However things are going great. I've stocked up on a variety of frags thanks to various local reefers and a trip to a nice fish shop. My tank is looking a lot fuller than before. I've got some Rics, Zoas, Shrooms, Acan colony, Xenia, Kenya Tree, frogspawn, and GSP so far. Everything finally decided to open up fully today cept for the frogspawn which is still in recovery from its fragging and me moving things around the last couple days. I'm satisfied with the placement now and will let things grow out. I still want to add a variety of zoas and Rics and have grown fond of the Acans. They're thriving in my tank and eat like pigs.

No new CUC of fish additions as of yet. Will give it another week or so. The two current guys are doing great. Curious, my McCosker wrasse has colored up beautifully. He's really active and I call him so due to the fact he is far from shy and loves attention. He comes to my hand when I'm cleaning or moving things around and just hangs nearby. He keeps the YWG on his guard always going near one of his burrows.

I do have some pics for this update and a short video. Leave comments and feedback. Heh.

The frag ended up splitting into two pieces. So far the bubbles are partially extended. I'm going to give it more time, I read it can take a few days for the frogspawn to fully extend. However it looks a lot better. Everything else looks really good. My tank looks full now. Anyhow, that's cool man. Just give me a txt or whatever if you stop by there anytime, I'll be there more than likely.

June 25, 2010 Update
Hello everyone. Its been awhile since I posted a update. Well the tank is nearing its 5 month anniversary. Not much has changed. Just a lot of growing out by the corals. I took some new photos and you can notice some growth in them. I've noticed the most in the Acan. It's got nearly 30 heads if not more. I got it from Tkimmons a few months back. Everything is doing great. I did add a nice frogspawn and mini anemone from Adrian that are both doing well. Not the best pictures but ya get the picture.
