First off it's been a while since I've posted on here but I've been on almost every day trying to learn me a thing or two. When I first joined I was setting up a 45gal reef tank, everything is going well with that but that will be staying a FOWLR for now. I am not home enough to attampt coral in that tank. This is the 10 gal. I am setting up at my girlfriends so it will be cared for everyday. Thanks a lot for looking if you have any questions or comments please let me know. If i did something right or wrong or forgot something please let me know. Thanks for looking.

Full tank at day 3. Finally found some nice live rock.

Found some aptasia and bubble alge on one of the rocks so I had to do some remodeling.

Didn't get it all. I think this is Aptasia?

Found these on the rock when I got it home under lights. I'm not sure what they are though.

I went out Monday for some rubble for the filter and the back of the tank for pods. Ended up getting that and two large rocks.

The first rock has a lot more green star polyps on it than I saw in the store so I'm pleased and the second has a mixture of mushrooms and zoa's that I think is really cool looking.

This is a full tank shot as of yesterday.

Thanks again for looking. I'm not sure what to stock the tank with so any suggestions would be great.

Setup looks nice. Its good to see that you spent some time reading before jumping in.

Ok, the yellow things are yellow polyps.

The aptasia thing is not aptasia. Could posibily be a glass anemone or something, no harm.

In regards to fish, keep it small. Clown, pseudochromis, damsel things of that nature. Its a small space so small is the key.

Be careful, green star polyps and yellow polyps have the ability to run wild and cover everything.

Looks good though. Nice job.

Yeah that first shot is aiptasia, nuke it while you can.

The yellow polyps are...yellow polyps
You can check out liveaquaria.com and under the coral section there is a section called polyps, they are at the bottom of the page, scientific name and care info can be found there.

JRod: thanks for the id's. Is there anything small enough for a 10 that could interest two kids other than a clown? Also, is there a way to trim or remove the polyp's if they start to take over?

Colinadam: Thanks also for the id. I put a peppermint shrimp in but it seems fairly disinterested. We'll see. I'll do a search on how to nuke it if this dosen't work. Thanks for the web site I'll pick up some baby brine and phyto later today.

For the kids i always like the goby shrimp pairings, i had a pistol pair in my 20 long until a heater malfunction.

Plus, the pistols make a cool clicking sound.

I'd do two clowns like previously said, also add a frogspawn or something in that area for it to host, it'd look good I did that.

charlesgage: I have been definately thinking about the pistol/goby but i can't find any in the lfs's around me. Also, do you think they would cause a sandstorm or be ok? The tank is a standard 10g with a tetra-tec pf300 and a aqua clear 30 ph.

Nygel: what kind of lighting does frogspawn need? I only have a 50/50 28w. I want to do a 70w DIY MH but i haven't been able to find a ballast.

I ran my frogpawn under an unknown pc lighting, im guessing similiar to yours. also as far as teh goby sandstorm, no, they shouldnt cause one, a jawfish would but most likeyl not a standard shrimpgoby.

Is the macro algae (name escaping me at the moment) planned because I finally had to remove 1/3 of my rock because it infested everything and was a big problem. Just wanted to give you the heads up, but if you intentionally wanted it, go for it, it just speards quickly.

if im not mistaken u only had your tank setup for a couple of days and your adding corals already

did u let your tank cycle and test your params before adding corals

im surpprised no one caught this
i guess everyone got carried away by the looks

nice catch bboy but i think he has used established live rock and does not have a true bio-load since there are no fish. If he is using sand from the 45g, things should be fine. There should not be a risk for overloading the biological compasity of the tank if he did the things i have mentioned . I could be wrong about the set up, it is just from what I see, but good point, very good point!

Poor: I dont know the name of this macro but it's been doing fine in my 45 for months and hasn't really grown much. the grape caulerpa I had in there was a different story. That tried to take over the tank.

bboy: this 10g has been up for about 7 weeks, i should have said that in my first post. All my parameters are good. The pictures were taken over the course of the 7 weeks and posted at one time.

Poor: The rock was cured and the sand was seeded with sand from the 45. Also as you said there is a relatively small bioload on this tank right now and I am watching my parameters very closely. Sometimes I think I spend too much time at the tank.

well you havnt mentioned anything about the tank being setup for 7weeks but the main thing is u didnt do the wrong thing
