Well i started my nano tank this past week. Got it for christmas for myself.
I have 30lbs of live sand and 30 lbs of Vanuatu Live Rock. Took two days for the cloudy water to settle down. Here is a few pic's of the setup.

Awesome. Just set mine up as well. Question: Are you running both of your pumps at the same time or using the wavemaker?

Congradulations

Great tanks the JBJ 28 gal. Nice scape as well. Consider some supplemental flow with a koralia at least a #2.

Using the wavemaker on the lowest setting. If i run both full time the water level seems low in the pump chambers. Also seem to be getting airbubbles from the one side too. I plan on getting a koralia too.

Mine will be set up in a few days. I did the same thing, Christmas present to myself. :D
I really like your rock work.

Just a little update. Tank still cycling. Just waiting for the tank to finish that. I'm hoping it will be just another week or so. Tank looks clear and doing my first water change tomorrow. Had the water tested at the LFS and the numbers match mine. They use a refractor and it was good to find i was just off a little using the reg hydrometer. As soon as its done cycle and i get my first stuff for it i'll post again.

Garetjax.

Taking it slow and safe.

Did a 5 gal water change today. Still waiting for the cycle to settle down. Tank looks clear and can see new growth on the rock.

OK now i would like some input. When my tank gets done cycling my dad is going to do a $225.00 purchase from Foster & Smith for me. He wants that because of the free shipping (lol). So what i need is what should i get for the tank. I'm looking at 1-2 shrimp, either a bleeny or goby. Possible a clown. They got a 5 pack nano polyp and a 7 pack nano mushroom pack. Let me all know what you think i should get to start out with.

I just got my tank and live rock yesterday! My tank is still a little cloudy, but I did a water change today and another tomorrow. Your first purchase should be your clean up crew, no fish! The reason I say that(from past experience) is if you should lose something, it won't be a major set back. Wait for it to cycle, get your clean up crew, wait a week, be sure to check your water quality with your test kits, then slowly add things. Don't forget your water changes and additives, such as calcium and such.

Rock looks awesome. Looks like it will turn out well. Did you glue the rock or they just sitting on eachother?

Didn't glue the rocks togther. They locked in to eack other real good. I can press on them in differn't directions and they dont move except one on the top in the middle.

Yes panning on a CUC first. Have been testing and will be doing water changes too after the cycle.

After the CUC, I highly recommend a pair of Yellow Watchman Goby and Pistol Shrimp because it's fun to watch, though mine does not come out often once it's found the burrows. I'm planning to get the Yasha Haze and Shrimp for my other cube.

Well done on the scape. I also have the quad waiting to be set up. Let us know how the quad's light works out. Do post some pics of what you get from your awesome dad!

OK an update now. ammonia now at 0, Nitrite at 5.0 and Nitrate at at 40. Doing a 20% water change tonite. Hope to have it settle down back this weekend. If so will start with some CuC, then wait a week till i put anything else in.

Update: Getting some snails and crabs tomorrow. Looks like the cycle is over. All test are 0 now for 2 days. After about a week with them going to get my first coral.
