wow I have had 2 bottles of flack and they have lasted me 2 years

Roger
I probably over feed a little.........

I think maybe.

granted I only have a 125 with much less and smaller fish and I only feed the flack about one a week or so. I you frozen most of the time.

Roger

So per Chuck's request, I post a recipe of sorts. I must say that the go-to guy on making frozen food has to be Marc, and his video released is fun and easy to follow.

Supplies needed:

1. Gallon size Zip-lock bags
2. blender or food processor
3. large mixing bowl
4. 1+ hour block of time in which no female is in the house/kitchen, or neighborhood.
5. one 6-pack good beer for each person involved with the food making (this is the highest cost part of the food)

Ingredients:

Please note that this method benefits from a kitchen sink attitude. Every time I make it, I vary the ingredients but make sure that no clams are part of the recipe. In my next batch, I will be adding scraped up aiptasia in the hopes that will encourage fish to eat the live ones! :)

I use all of the following, but not neccessarily all in the same batch:

1. pellet spirulina
2. shredded dried nori (no additives)
3. mixed seafood bag from Asian store, usually around $3/lb This typically contains mussels, scallops, shrimp, squid, fish, crab etc.
4. silversides (or something similar also from Asian store)
5. Selcon
6. various aquatic vitamins
7. frozen mysid
8. frozen brine
9. frozen Prime reef
10. frozen plankton
11. frozen krill
12. frozen Formula 2
13. Frozen Cyclops

Directions:

Thaw all frozen foods in collendar lined with paper towels. This is a PITA but I feel neccessary to remove as much water-borne nutrient as possible. More on that later.

Once all frozen foods have been drained of their excess water content, I blend them together in a large mixing bowl. Then I use a food processor for the mixed seafood, silversides etc. and you need to be careful as the size of your fish will play a key role in how much you blend these up. Too much and they won't bother with most of it. Not enough and food will end up on the bottom. Because I have some fish willing to swallow food pieces larger that their own heads, I tend to not chop it up too much, and that lets the anemones get some decent sized pieces as well.

Then I pour in the spirulina, vitamins, selcon, and chopped meat. mix thoroughly and ladle into the Zip-lock bags. Do not put too much in the bags or it will be difficult to break off pieces when frozen. I place the bags on a tray, flatten them out, and into the freezer they go.

When feeding, I take a bowl of tank water, place in some shredded dried nori, a piece of the frozen food, and some more food soak/vitamins etc. I let it thaw completely and then I DRAIN the water all off. I realize that this seems to be a waste for the vitamins, but I do not want to add too much excess nutrients to the water column.

I also occassionally feed my PLTA, Open Brain, fox coral, and hammer cut up pieces of shrimp. And also when I purchase fresh seafood for the family, somtimes I will feed some choice slices of tuna, salmon, shark, scallops, etc.

HTH...

no sweat...most everything I have learned is through trial and error, with less error due to the many reefers willing to share their experiences online. :)

just about the same for me for what i been doing, but i used the small ice cubes tray for now until my population gets bigger? i hate breaking up the pieces up IMO just create more work for me. when i get home one cube is thawed enough to feed all my fish. i loved it when i hand feed my female crosshatch trigger and male velvet multicolor wrasse

mine jumped out of the tank and into the bowl when my wife was feeding them a couple of nights ago. She got splashed pretty good. Just glad that lamp was off already. :)

Does yours eat xenia and aiptasia?

Speaking of jumping, my Christmas Wrasse jumped and landed in the bowl of frozen brine shrimp I was feeding the tank. How could I have been so lucky?
