My new 600 gallon reef

Here are a few pictures from the setup. First problem was the over head ductwork which made it tough to get all of the pipes through the overflows.

Then it was time to set all of the pieces of the puzzle back in place and get everything hooked back together. I thought that Franz did a great job on the canister cradle. This allowed the use of the largest Lifeguard filters and were able to fit them under the stand and still be able to service them.

Before anything could be powered up, need to get some power to the tank. Come to find out there isn't enough room in the panel to hook up the tank. So now I need a new panel to supply enough power to the system.

So now I should have enough with 4 dedicated 20 amp circuits at the tank.

The pieces have all been put back together and things have fallen into place for the most part.

Awesome creation! Your fish/corals will thank you.

I use the Lifeguard filters (chem, mechanical, uv, heater) on my little 50 gallon and couldn't be happier.

I'd be interested in your feedback on these Lifeguards, please!

What kind of lighting are you going to use?

This system uses the 29" canisters, 2 -mechanical, 2 - chemical, and 2 - 40 watt UV's. Filtration loop is powered by a Blue Line 100 pump.

I think that they work great, I have them running on 5 of my other tanks.

Live Rock

Live Rock

I had 500 lbs of Marshall live rock flow in from CA. The rock was hand picked and photographed for me before purchasing. From the pictures the vendor sent, I was sure there was really going to be enough. Pictures didn't look like a lot until I got to the airport and tried to get all of these boxes in my car.

T5 Lighting

T5 Lighting

I would just use T5 lighting, everyone i know, their corals grow like crazy on T5s and they are very energy efficent, low cost and will not produce heat.

Metal halides are old school technology. My brother in law designs lighting for Wall Mart to Home depot most of the fortune 500 companies and they all are converting to T5 for the light output.

Pick whatever you want and quit insulting people who like metal halides. I don't care what Donald Trump uses to light his elevators I just won't live without the glitter effect. Oh and I will refrain from telling you that your choice is bad.

Now back to the amazing 600 gallon tank topic!

Here is a picture the supplier took of the live rock in his warehouse. The cardboard was to represent the dimensions of my tank. Sure didn't look like a lot of rock in the picture.

Well, we finally were ready to get started placing the rock in the tank. Started out by laying out each box of rock.

Dressed and ready for the task, Travis began placing the rock in the tank.
