Next task was to get the sand in the tank, all 500 lbs of it. Grant supplied the sand and delivered it to my house, buckets and buckets, of sand. I hope that he left some for his son's sandbox in the spring..

Now I have to wait until all of the dust settles........

I was amazed at how little rubble was left over after all of the rock was placed in the tank.
Here is a picture of the remaining rock which we put into the refugium. Jeff did a great job in packing the rock for shipment to South Dakota!

By morning, the tank had cleared up quite a bit. Skimmer seemed to be working fine and doing its job.
Going to need to do some work adjusting the return nozzles so they aren't kicking up so much sand.

Looking great for sure! And don't worry about the comments on the lighting, some people think their way is the only way. I have a feeling this is going to be one heck of a reef by the time it is done.

Looks really nice.

How much bowing are you getting on the front with the tank being made of 1/2 inch? I had a 300 gallon (96x24x30) made of 1/2 inch and it had a little bow to it. It really wasnt noticeable unless you put a straight edge against the front.

Didn't catch the name of the marshall rock supplier you used from Calif? Also was the ruck considered precured or fully cured?

I bought the live rock from Jeff's Exotic Fish in Gardenia, CA. The rock had been in his curing tanks for several weeks.

They did do a great job. I'm impressed. Need to get the return nozzles set a little better as they are kicking up a lot of sand. Plans for the tank are for Travis to stock it with his SPS frags. (He claims he has plenty). I haven't work out a fish list as of now, but will work with Travis to make sure they are all SPS friendly.

Will more than likely invite the club over sometime in the future. Right now, I am still trying to get everything hooked up and running on the new tank. You can email me if you are in town and would like to stop by. It's a little easier to show one or two people around rather than a group.

Congrats on the tank. I have a 600g (96x48x30) and love the 4' depth.
I am using the Lumen Max reflectors as well and they are awesome. I run (3) 400 watt radiums with T-5 supplements and the reflectors do a great job of spreading out the light across a 4' wide tank. They are a little bulky but are really efficient.

Those life Guard canistars look like a set of Scud Buster Rocket Launchers. Man you are rocking. How are you going to finish off the rest of the basement ? are you going to paint that beam to give it some protection from the salt air ?

Never been to SD but lookin at that clean white snow might need to make a winter visit one day.

This a great set up...

I was wondering if you thought about the heat dissipation that the chillers are going to give off? I have a 1/2 hp chiller in a large closet and the room heats up to 103 degrees!!!

Thank you! I just finished hanging the Lumen Max fixtures and fired them up for the first time. WOW! Looks like you could light a football field with them. Will try and post some pictures of the completed lighting later tonight. I am so happy that I went with the 48" width. It really adds to the tank. Can hardly wait to get some fish swimming around in the tank and the corals in place.

No immediate plans right now for the basement. I want to get the tank up and running right now.

As for the snow, look at pictures, right now it is 5 below with a high to day of 18. If you decide to visit, I would suggest making it a short one....

The basement area has its own central air cooling system which keep area at a nice temperature. That was another consideration for locating the tank in the basement.

Time to get the lights up. I chose the Coralife Aqualight Pro 250 W MH 96 w compacts along with 3 Lumen Max 2 reflectors with Ushio 14K 400 watt bulbs. I am using Sunlight's Galaxy 2 electronic ballast.
