The off-button is great. I was really impressed how well that worked, and it was pretty darn easy to set up, right?

You were carrying around a large rubbermaid full of food, and squirted food like it was going out of style. ;) I've a heavy feeder, and you made me stop and pause....

Hey Chuck, if the nori gets too expensive, you could always use these:

WOW...Jonathan, you know all of the tricks! Now tell me where I can find a pair of those! (I'll bet not in South Dakota!) What in the heck are they called?

I was going back through Melev's website the other day and stumbled across a picture of this neat little filter that Marc had seen at MACNA. I bought a couple to add some additional filtration to the specimen tank I am having the hair algae problem. Small enough for both to fit in the sump. Neat little filter! (Marc, they hold 2 of the ALGONE pouches, but am going to use one to allow for expansion)

A guy really needs to review his site more often!

MULTI BLADE SCISSORS

They are available from a lot of craft suppliers.

That's the first time I've seen the packaging. Looks good.

Keep in mind that you'll have to take the basket out and flip it when the flow slows down. I think it is a good device when it is used properly. In the case of Algone, I don't think it matters since the water penetrates the pillow, but carbon or GFO needs specific flow and the way the media sits in the basket needs to be done properly or water would just pass next to it, making it ineffective.

Marc,
Care to elaborate on how carbon or gfo media needs to be done properly... I have a couple of these also for that purpose.

If you have it full of carbon, don't push too much flow through it or it might pulverize.

If you run GFO, you must fill it at least 50% full, and it has to be set up level so the water passes through the media and not next to it.

This little reactor can't be set up on its side.

Quiksilver talks about this reactor in his thread and we discussed some of this about a month ago.

I got some Red Mangroves in the mail today, both seed pods, and rooted plants with a couple of leaves. I thought that I would experiment with these in the refugium and see what impact they might have on my system. From what I understand, I can place the seed pods directly in the sump without acclimating.

The rooted plants on the other hand have been grown in fresh water and will need to be acclimated for salt. From discussions with a few people, it sounds like the best way to do this is by placing them in a container of fresh water and over a period of a week or so, add a little of the tank salt water to the container until the salt content is the same as the tanks.

I hope people with experience with these plants will chime in and offer any other suggestions for these plants. I do not have much in the way of a green thumb...

WOW you got a lot of them! Never really had any experience w/ them. Where you get them from

Hows all the equipment running? Skimmer still pulling like a machine? Ca Rx keeping up w/ stuff? Sometime I need to get over there again and see things

I am going to experiment with the rooted mangroves with one group in fresh water and the other vase I will slowly add salt water from the tank over the next week to ten days and see how they compare after that period of time.

that carpet is sweet Chuck. Angel too. It's so hard with tangs because there are hybrids. Must be some kind of bristletooth I would think... try posting in a fish related forum.
