Wow that is quite the shop vac! I think you should to name it, may I suggest R2D2?

That seems like a lot of growth in a short time for your mangroves. Did you change anything other then the lights?

Good name! I did add a little Miracle Grow to the water in hopes of getting some development.

I missed it, which light did you switch to for the mangroves? I switched out my old light for a "plant light" from HD and noticed that my remaining mangroves are doing much better now.

Well, Thanks again to Willy for offering to stop by and help with the changing of the pumps. Willy to the rescue once again. Not only was one pump not running, the second working pump developed a leak at the bulkhead causing the loss of about 30 gallons in 24 hour period. (another reason for buying R2D2 today).

So both pumps had to be removed. Drained the sump and was ready to go. Tight fit under the stand but Willy was able to get the wrench in the sump and loosen the bulkheads. With the nuts off, the pumps came out very easy.

On Melev's recommendation, I am using a florescent reflector bulb.

When Willy reinstalled the bulkheads, did he hand-tighten them only?

Let's hope there are no more leaks.

Looks like your mangroves are about to burst out some green leaves.

No, he had to use the wrench since it was such a tight fit to reach inside the sump. I don't think that he tightened them too tight. 3 hours later, and no drips

congrats on the new pumps, hopefully you won't have any problems for a while. Willy seems to really be getting into the whole plumbing deal. now he has tons of ideas for his tank lol.

glad you were able to get some good stuff from the club buy, i guess it came at a good time also.

We took apart the assembly on the non working pump to find the bad news, Jonathan, you were right, not only was the impeller shot, but it was melted to the spindle of the housing.

Got the fittings put on the new pump and attatched it to the sump. Filled the sump, primed the pumps and turned them on. Both fired up and NO DRIPS OR LEAKS from the bulkheads.

In all, it took about two hours to drain the sump, remove the pumps, replaced the defective pump, reattach the pumps, and fill the sump. Everything worked GREAT! There was only ONE SMALL PROBLEM..........................

19 people looked at this thread after my last post and Grant, you were the first person to ask..... (must be a lot of picture lookers)

Willy made one BIG mistake before he left my home. He FORGOT to remind me to shut off the water filling the sump. Of course, after he left, I made some dinner and after finishing, I went down stairs to feed the tank and saw water every where. The 3 water alarms had been moved from the tank several days ago with all of the issues I was having with water, so I had no idea that the sump was over flowing. As best as I can figure from the level salt mixing tank was at before the night started and from what it took to fill the sump up back to it's normal level after reinstalling the pumps, I figure I added another 60 gallons to the sump, most of which ended up on the floor once again. This is getting to be a regular thing. I might as well fill the entire basement and make it one big tank..........:(

Well, I am going back to E-Bay to order 5 more alarms and strategically them around the basement. (areas the water runs to when something goes wrong or I over fill the sump.).

Good thing about this is I was filling with salt water and NOT RO water. Now I guess that I don't have to do a water change this week. :)

I read it, he covered the hanging thing, I'm glad I didn't have to wait long. At least you get to break in the new shopvac.

Nope, didn't take long to put it to use. It will be nice to return to posting pictures of the inside of the tank, rather than everything going on the outside. Pictures of water on the floor just aren't that exciting, but I am sure it makes a few people laugh....

Besides ordering some more water alarms, I ordered a new pump housing to replace the destroyed one in the pump.

Old....

I think we RC members should make a ruling on this particular case: Chuck is not allowed to leave the basement ever. Does anyone want to Second this motion?
