well Chuck for your first time you did a very nice job. congrats.

looks like there are plenty of ric for the wife to choose from also :D I really like the setup, It fits them real nice.

One thing that I may suggest is to somehow waterproof the wood, either with polyurethane, or a water proof primer.
Thanks Sam, now that it's up and working, I feel much better. It will be interesting to see how the muchrooms react now that they have some good light over them.

Nick...You will have to stop by some night after work and tell me what you think after you look at them under the new lights. I've put some both in the cube and the 75.

Appears the thread lost me after the split :)

That tank looks amazing, I am truly envious since I have like 15 spots I think I could fit that in my house :D

In time that tank will be vibrant with colors!.

A question and a comment.
Are there no in tank rock work?

And a comment, I will imagine the tank will do some cyano trips and my concern is for ricordeas on the sand you will have a hard time syphoning around to remove cyano or other algae.

But it looks great Chuck! Nice work.

Thank you! I thought about cutting the wires but decided against it in case I had done some thing wrong and needed to change things around. Now that it is up and working, I don't think that it will be much of a problem shortening them up.

For 2 1/2 days, I struggled with this darn canopy trying to get every thing planned out and put together and working. More than once, I asked myself why I just didn't purchase a light fixture to put over the tank, hang it and plug it in. Would have been so much easier. My carpentry skills and experience is very limited so the whole project was a big challenge.

Your help & slide show made it easier and now that it is done and up and running, I feel much better. It's not something that you would hang over a tank in your living room, but for my needs, I think that it will do fine.

Laer today I will check the PAR values for the tank.

half the fun is building stuff for your tank...

Thank you, make me an offer on the other cube I have before I try and find a place for it in the house...:)

I do have a lot of rocks in the various tanks that I thought that I would mount some to once they have opened up under the new lights and I can see how big they really are.

It wasn't at the time.....:mad2: Now having done it and have it working, the next one would be much easier and quicker to build.

I traded a few ricordeas today for a couple of nice pieces of SPS to see how they do in the tank. I got a Montipora Nodosa, and a Montipora Cap. Good sized pieces for the trade. Now I will have to wait and see how they do in the tank.

Thank you! Now that it's done, it's inspired me to do something with the other cube I picked up. Just not sure what to put in it??

I second a clam lagoon!

It would be very cool, soon you're going to have to charge admission like all the other big aquariums do :D

I checked the PAR values for the cube tank with the recordeas, and at the top of the water, it was 341 and with the sensor on the bottom of the tank, it was 154.

Would one expect that big if change with only 12" of water, under T5 lighting?

That's a big jump. How you orient the sensor is key. Was the flow on, or off?
The flow was on. The sensor was just breaking the top on the water for the top measurement. (was not covered with water)

Test it 1" under the water, then compare it to the number at the substrate.
I'll bet a nice little probe holder would make that simple....:D

I thought that I would try and see if I can get my Nitrates to go below 25, which seems to be the weekly number. Some where I remember Marc mentioning some thing about Seachem's Nitrate remover, so I thought that I would give it a try, (Couldn't find Marc's report as to whether it worked).

Placed it in a separate media reactor and hooked it up to one of the spaces on the manifold and filled it up. Directions called for a low flow of about 50 gallons per hour.

I'll let it run a day and then check for Nitrates in the tank and then check Nitrates from the output of the reactor.

I'm curious aswell about the nitrate removal media. Let us know how it goes. Everything I read says these products don't work well. I've been playing with a sulfur denitrator that I bought used. It's been running 6 months now and the effluent is significantly reduced in nitrates. It seems to be too small however to make any significant change to my system.

I am curious too, I thought that I would give it a try to see if it helps, before investing in a large Denitrator. This would be a much cheaper way to go if it works. The 470 has higher Nitrates than does the 600, but since they are lower, I thought that this would be a better first test.

good luck on that de nitrate stuff. I tried alot of things before when I was having nitrate problems and found out it was because the nitrates were leaching from my rocks. well long story short the only product I found that pulled the nitrates out was the AZNO3. after using that I have never had problems with my nitrates. but I am sure it would be spendy on a 600 gal. tank :D
