I just found this guy this morning...Went in for frag plugs, but could not leave without this guy...

He is just a tiny little guy but looks very healthy...Here he is acclimating...

Nice.

Aren't they one of the tough ones to acclimate to tank living?

From what I know...Alot of them come in w/ Brook. But if you can them treated quickly or get a healthy specimen they do fine. The LFS has had a pair in a display tank for several years now. They have had this guy in quarantine for a while and he has not shown any signs of disease.

He looks just like my little one,
That is my favorite clownfish.....I got a pair about a month ago after 2-3 years of looking....I'm sure yours will do great, mine have acclimated and taken over my reef tank. They are the only fish in it now so they seem to be happy. I have been told they are tough toget happy....Good luck with yours.

thanks for the compliments...i would like to get a mate for him someday...I'll definitely be on the lookout...I expect him to eventually become boss of the tank, right now he is just a little guy just hanging out in one particular corner...

my LFS has been getting more and more of them labeled from the wholesaler as maldive pink skunk. try that name and see if you can get more hits

i paid $30 at t.f.p. for a farm raised a. nigripes about 3 years ago , but have since sold it's anemone and dont plan on replacing it any time soon . you can have it if you want it . i'm in philadelphia .

marc,

your farm raised nigripes definitely sparks my interest. How is his temperment? I was looking for a juvie specimen, an adult w/ a bad attitude could wipe this guy out in a second...He is about the size of a quarter if not less.

it was about 3/4" when i got it , went for a true percula an saw a tank of about 15 of these (couldn't resist ) . it's the best tempered clownfish i've ever had . and i've had some nasty c.f. . it gets right next to the purple tang and gently fans it with it's tail . do you have an anemone ? it's never really been the same since it's anemone has been removed . if i get another anemone i'd keep it but the t. clams are getting large and limiting the room for one . it took to an h. crispa which i sold back to the lfs when i got a rbta . i grew to hate the rbta it (they when it split) where glorified overgrown aptasia anemones .

i heard nigripes are just really skittish when introduced to tanks just like all of the skunks are. i beleive thats the main problem with them acclimating. (from the wild at least)

Marc's older one is female by now. If yours is still juvenile, the pairing may work, but I would not delay. Left alone, clownfish turn female, and two females will fight to the death.

Are they in the skunk complex? I have read different things, but not sure if the complexes are really meaningful anyway. I heard they get quite aggressive later unlike most skunks.

Actually I think I have read some where they have been placed in the Tomato complex. I know my pair have been in my tank for little over a month and they are still skittish. I don't know if it ever goes away, so far it hasn't. I'm not sure what having an anemone will do to their behavior, but I plan on getting one here in the next week or two. I did not know there are tank bred nigripes, that would be cool if they began to reproduce them enough to supply the hobby.

An anemone is likely to make them territorial. The pair in the display tank at the LFS are hosted by a RBTA and will attack your hand if you get too close. They don't bother the other fish, just hands lol.

the thing that concerns me w/ adding a mature mate is my 2 picassos sharing the tank...

right now all three are living in harmony...no agression, the baby nigripes has been accepted into the clown clique like an adopted foster kid.

I am unsure of what I want to do now. If these three can live together in harmony, I don't want to upset the peace by adding a mature female nigripes.

i wouldn't call this one skiddish but it's not agressive either . it is full grown , been in my tank close to four years . are you talking about picasso triggerfishes , 2 in a 65 ( imo ) is alot of fish . If well fed they'll grow to 10" in a few years . you may be better off with one clownfish .
