My new blue S. Haddoni!!!!

Smoke yes, I always thought it was poop coming from the anemones. Is smoke poop or zoox? How can I tell if it's expelling zoox?

Smoke is usually a pretty tale tale sign that it's stressed and it's releasing sperm as a survivability tactic. Zoox in these nems look like round little brown balls or clumps. How wide/big is the mouth atm?

Strange.. my RBTA always shrank and expelled a smoke like substance at night.. but during the day he's big and has nice bulb tips.. I've had him for many months now and I would consider him to be extremely healthy.

The haddoni is looking real good right now (again). The stomach barely protruded last night and right now his mouth is slightly open. I can't tell if he planted his foot yet though.

Ahhh.. i finally see him expelling brown clump stuff.. guess thats the zoox.. Is that good or bad?

Since he is expelling zoox, I assume he will be more prone to intense light until he rebuilds the zoox?

Can you see the underside of your tank from the cabinet? I can see mine, and the foot is clearly attached- if you can pop your head under the cabinet, you may be able to see him making his way through the sand :)

Cabinet is in the way so I cant tell. He seems to be doing much better.. his mouth is real small now, still open but small. Hoping he battles through the stress.

It depends. If the nem is really really stressed, then it's bad but that doesn't mean it's a goner unless it's internal infection causing the zoox to be expelled (antibiotics?). If it's just adjusting to the new lights (spectrum, intensity) and new water params, then I would say it's pretty normal and should reach equilibrium in it's own time. From your picture, It looks great for being shipped and what not. Just have to watch and study it :)

if i feed a lot it puts out the white slime stuff i thought that was poop? I think that the nems mouth being too open is causing it to turn inside out at night. They shrink at night the foot swells but the actual nem shrinks. in the day the disc grows and the foot shrinks. Possible that when it deflates the disc it cant hold in the mouth how long have you had it and what are the water param's im sure thats they are good but you never know. when they are threatened they will actually disappear under the sand. the first feeding should be human edible shrimp no shell just a small piece it seems for me it is very good for them(easy to digest). you still have hope what do your lights do (they're cycle) color of light also. I haven't dealt with a nem acting like this just by having mine so long i learned kinda what it likes and dislikes. 10k light i have found to be very important. also wondering if when the lights come on it is burning the stomach so it sucks it back in? I really hope someone can help hate to see it die...

Thx for the info. My lights are probable around 17k or so. It's led dialed using a controller.

The tank params are pretty good. I check very katana twice a week.

Today by far he's looked the best since in got him. His mouth almost fully closed a few times. I'm waiting for tomorrow morning to see how he looks.

Awsome score i just got my blue one back from a reefer i sold it to 2 yrs ago and now have blue thats about 10 in and a red that 20 in! The first few weeks are when you need to watch it close IMO!

125mph -- what is your Mag level? Mine "told" me when my Mag level was low, just be how it looked.

Mag is the one thing I don't test or dose. I figure the weekly water changes and the small amount of mag in my calcium supp will be enough. I might start testing it.

Well, after 3 + days, it looks like a keeper.

Hope so.. I had written him off over the weekend with around a 5% survival odds... But now seeing how well he appears to be doing I give him 75%.

This morning he looked great again. Lights are still off but his disc is well expanded. Like todd said, I want to see him doing well for 1+ months before I can say he's definitely sticking around :)

Also forgot to mention.. I had removed my RBTA from the tank on Saturday and coincidentally the Haddoni started getting better on Saturday as well.. Wonder if that has anything to do with it.

IME/O, that has a lot to do with it. I have never had any luck mixing S. Haddonis with BTAs (( E. Quadricolors )). Add that to the fact that it was already stressed from shipping, and I believe (( hope )) that you may have found the cause of its issues.

Is this just within the same display or system? I have a couple RBTA's in the same system, but in different displays as my Haddoni... So far they are both doing well, but I don't really care to take chances... ;)

Display, though all of my tanks are separate from each other.

When I tried it, the Haddoni started moving all over the tank, and this is one that I had had for 6+ years at the time, and had been in the same spot for 2 years. In addition to the moving, its mouth was open, but not protruding. Had the same results with an LTA.
