My new breeding pair

Today I stayed home from work to accept shipment of this breeding pair of ocellaris..They are my new backup broodstock. My old pair are very dusky, whereas these guys are bright orange!

I am very pleased. The seller did a great job packing them up, and they arrived almost stress free.

My rotifers failed to multiply as expected, and my larvae ate so much that I ran out. Had to make a trip to the university to pick some up from my friend there.

Ice storm is coming..... We had a regional power outage that missed us the last time. I am hoping for some similar luck this weekend.

Cheers,
Kathy

Were these Elmo's? UWScotch's (Aaron)? Another pair altogether?

Just curious.. ;)

Matt

I am pretty certain they were Aaron's, he has a thread from yesterday over on RCF about packing them to ship them to St. Louis :)

They are a gorgeous pair! Congrats Kathy! Considered them myself but now room for any more ocellaris (orange and whites that is) right now.

Nice looking clowns kathy. Yep, the ice is just starting to stick to the trees here and the branches are already starting to cave in. De-ja-vou.

hey kathy and danfrith,
i live an hour from st. louis and we have about a half inch of ice so far. and since you live that way, i frequently go to gatewayaquatics over ther what are your feelings on them our maybe you know of a really good store? thanks

Kathy,

the color is really perfect and much better then the mostly seen brown orange occelaris - keep my fingers crossed that they start soon with their first nests.

Peter, my thoughts exactly. My first broodstock pair are almost black on the top of their bodies. The new female is bright orange throughout. I can hardly wait for the babies, and if I cross pair one's baby with pair two's, what will I get?

David, ice is the stuff midwestern aquarists fear most, at least this one does. A power outage in the summer means you need battery operated air pumps. A power outage due to ice means you need a generator to keep the fish warm! I dodged the first of three bullets last night. We still have power. Two more ice storms to go for this weekend.

More good news: this new pair chowed down on formula 1 this morning with gusto! Aaron really knows how to pack them! I am, as Matt would say, BEYOND pleased.

David M., Man, that was cold...lol, no pun intended :D.

Kathy, very sweet pair, so bright and perfect stripes. I mostly lurk around here with visions of one day raising some clowns. My male of my pair is just like that, exceptionally bright, popping orange. My female, well I guess she is a Darwins, almost completely black. They have a nest every week it seems. I am still considering trying my hand at this...if I ever do I plan on contacting you for some help for this newbie. Keep us updated.

What is "ice"

We could explain it to you, but it really wouldn't do it any justice, Mr. Oh-look-at-me-I'm-Mr.-warm-climate-boy. :D:D:D

Hey come on, we actually had some HAIL one day a few weeks back. It was awful, lasted for at least 3-4 minutes. :eek1:

Hi Kathy!

I am glad you got the pair! They are very nice! I, too, have a problem of too many fish now :( especially when I'm about to move.

Aaron and I can probably scrounge up some photos of their babies. I'm sure Aaron has more.

Lets not talk about storms...We've had our fair share of wind....hail...ice...snow...yuck. The windstorm we had in the PNW a couple of weeks ago knocked out millions of people without power :(

Anyway, let us know when they spawn :) They adjust really fast!

Best,
Ilham

Kathy,

one of my friends has a fish store and is breeding too. He has a HUGE female with the bright coloration. They told me that the real orange ones come from Indonesia (??). I am too looking for fish in that color
