My new buddy from Diver's Den has something on one of his/her fins

Hi all,

I have had aquariums for many many years and have had very few illness issues in my tanks. I normally keep them lightly stocked.

I just got in a 3 inch Titan Trigger and it appears to have a single spot of fungus or something on one fin. The titan is about 3 inches long and right now in a 55 that will be his home until he grows a bit.

I have always believed if you keep your water and feed properly that most things take care of themselves but I have never had something that I bought and came in with an infection.

I am sure his immune system was stressed over the last 24 hours but my question is do you think I need to jump right on this or wait and see if it works itself out after the fish gets established a bit?

Any advice would be great

Thank you Steelerfan. While its hard to be certain thats what my guy has I would be willing to wager it 95% by looking at pictures and the description. I will keep the water quality perfect and only feed him high quality foods and hope he gets better.

Thank you and I am alittle bitter as the Divers Den picture was taken on his good side so he could have had it when he was still there.

I'd suspect lymphocystis first. If it is lympho it will likely resolve on its own given good tank conditions. It may spread from the fins before getting better. In my experience it most commonly starts on the pectoral fins and then spreads to the body where the fin touches while swimming. The few fish I've gotten that had this made a complete recovery shortly after growths appeared on the body.
