My new buddy - ruby red dragonet

Just finished acclimating him about 2 hours ago, he's doing well so far, shy, sticking to one area as you could expect any new introduction.

Wow, that is a cool fish. My mandarin is the one fish that everyone goes crazy over. Would love to have the Ruby Red. Do you mind me asking what he went for?

I am right there with you, dragonets are my favorite fish in the hobby honestly.

I purchased him for $119, not sure if that is a good or bad price but was one I was willing to pay for this guy. They had 4 originally all of which were gone within 2 days.

He acclimated well and made it through the night, he is owning about 10 gallons of bare tank bottom in my QT, I've found that dragonets take a while to become comfortable in a new environment, normally owning a very small area for several days and exploring / expanding their territory very slowly. Not sure if this is true of all but at least this guy and my spotted mandarin behaved exactly the same after acclimation.

My local LFS got two in the beginning of October, they were wrongly classified by the distributed as moyers. One died right away and the other is in my 75 gallon. It appears that they are eating frozen but I could be wrong. It has had a lot of weight gain. My tank is an established reef with lots of rock so there might be a good population of pods.

Also I told my LFS if they were able to get in more in I'd take another. So as of Thursday I have two. Just love there color.

Good luck with yours the last one I bought I paid 109 for.

I got two and here in Canada they are not sold for that much. I paid about C$40 each.

Here is a phone picture for both of them. I just got one this Tuesday and the other one today.

They are tiny about 1.5". Note that the skunk tilefish is watching them.

Had one that ate pellets hours after acclimating to qt. Was .75" tops and was wiped out from velvet in a day. Never saw it coming. Just happy it was I'm qt

I've seen them around a few times now, they have become fairly more accessible and the price has dropped considerably as well in the last few months.

The LFS I got mine said they had gotten reports that ~8 of the 10 they sold had passed within a few weeks. Not sure if that speaks to bad luck, difficult acclimation to home aquaria, or a capture method.

Yeah he came from living art a few months ago they had gotten a hold of a few of them. They usually have some nice stuff, excited for what their new location will have with all that extra space. Makes me happy to see a good LFS moving to a new / expanded location.

The Lineatus wrasse did settle down, he still likes to chase the anthia's on occasion but no more nipping or biting. Will see how he reacts when I add a second wrasse in a few weeks -- just about to add a Paracheilinus Attenuatus (Diamond Tail Flasher wrasse) to my QT.

I heard they were moving. Do you know where the new shop is going to be. I think they are the best shop around the area. I went to a few in Milwaukee last summer and was not impressed at all. You should look into going to one of the Divers den open houses. I think they have one around July.

Yeah unfortunately I wasn't overly impressed with much Milwaukee had to offer either. Outside of living art I make trips to Chicagoland area for some amazing LFS.
Living Art's new location is going to be right across from the Woodman's grocery on Gammon (708 S. Gammon Rd.). They are going to be closed from April 18 - May 19 for the move and then I assume they will have a big opening event.They have some really good moving sales going on too, buy 2 get 1 free IO/RC 200g boxes and some other good stuff.

I have some family in Eagle River which is about 30 minutes from Divers Den in Rhinelander, so I will definitely have to do that.

I went to a lfs close to my house and to my surprise they had one he was constantly hiding so no one noticed him I ended up buying his for $20 he acclimated great and eating live brine like crazy!! Real nice fish! Looking to find a female now.

Do you think I could add one of these to a tank with a mandarin goby? The goby has been in there for a couple of years now. The male died and she will not accept another male in her tank. That or the last male I got wasn't doing it for her.
