I purchased a crocea thursday evening, along with a maxima and a nice acro. Yesterday early in the day all 3 were doing wonderfully, both clams were fully open getting plenty of light and were fully extended. then my crocea snapped shut when a fish swam over it and fell off the piece of rock i had placed it on. after probably like an hour of being upside down on the sandbed i found it and flipped it over. after a while i noticed it wasnt opening so large in its new spot so i moved it back up to its old one. now its hardly open at all and its colored part (is that the mantle or is the mantle between the colored part we see and the inside of the shell?) is not extended at all, in fact its about 1/2 an inch inside the clams shell tucked in. at first the clam had its two sides folded over eachother so it looked kind of like this inside the shell \()/ where the parenthesis are the colored part of the clam and the slashes are the shell. now its showing the middle of itself, its mouth and stuff, but the colored part is still like 1/2 an inch tucked under the top of the shell. the clam is also unresponsive to things, like when its shadowed it doesnt close up more, and when i move it it doesnt close up anymore. i also noticed something that looked like cling plastic wrap coming up from the top of the shell. it was very clear and shiny and a few mm in length and went around the entire length of the shell.
sorry about the bad description. everything eles in the tank is doing fine including the 3 other clams (1 derasa and 2 maximas). i have 2 175 watt MHs and 2 96 watt PCs for supplimentation on this tank and all my water levels are fine (ammonia nitrite are 0 nitrate is around .3 calcium is around 400). i'll try and get a picture instead of using crude drawings with slashes and paranthesis. anyone know what could be wrong with the clam? and how to fix it?
