Long time lurker.
Just purchased my first real skimmer this weekend .

As you guys can see in the second picture, I'm battling a disgusting algae bloom, have been since May.
Water changes haven't been making a dent in it.

Set-up a 72 gallon bowfront. This is temporary while I work on building a stand for my rr 90 gallon.

Hard to tell from the pic, but is that green algae waterborne? In other words, not growing on the glass but actually floating in the water column?
If its waterborne, you might try turning all the lights off for three days straight to starve the algae out. The corals will be fine.

Give the skimmer a chance. They take a while to break in, so don't expect miracles overnight. Once you see some nice, dark skimmate, you should see a difference in the algae problem. Once your new set-up is completed, you might want to look into a GFO reactor.
