My new fish may be dieing

Today i saw my jawfish come outs of hole for once, and i noticed i could see his ribs! So i thought to myself this is not good, my favorite fish could be possibly dieing. I care about this fish so much. I've been feeding phytomax, mysis with garlic extreme, flakes, and freeze-dried cyclopeeze. I see him eat but not much only whatever floats by his little makeshift trench he has going. Today i fed flakes mixed with tiny garlic bits and i saw him eat alittle but hes just so darn skinny and i worry for his health. So my question is what do you feed your jawfish? Also side question : Will uneaten garlic bits raise ammonia?

Sincerely keaton:)

Tell us a little more about your system... tank size, live rock? sand bed depth, all parameters, types of fish and corals in the system, anything else you can think of... all these things help people decided what might be going on...

I suggest trying to target feed him... shut off your pump/powerheads and make sure the food gets right in front of him... might have to do this several times a day until he gets plump again...

As to garlic... anything that isn't eaten will rot and raise ammonia in the long run...

Read up on jawfish and see what else you might feed that he may like more: "Jawfish should be fed a variety of fresh and prepared protein foods such as brine shrimp, krill, bloodworms, etc." from http://www.tropicalfish.at/saltwater/jawfish/jawfish.html

Hope that helps some

Its a 29 gal system that i set up on the first thursday of jan, i have two other fish other then the awesome jawfish, and they are 1x purple firefish and 1x spotted hawk fish. The first day i got the jawfish the spotted hawkfish was sorta wierd towards him but now all the fish live in harmony. I got the jawfish thursday and he has made his hole in the western front corner under a small rock. My sandbed is 4 inchs approx.
