My new goniopora!

I picked up a beautiful medium size goniopora(thanks for the ID).
I read on liveaquaria that it's hard to keep one. I wanted to know if anyone has any trick to keep these guys alive and healthy would be nice. This is my second coral so kinda new. I also paid 30 for it let me know if that's a good price. He is healthy and amazing green.

Thanks for the advice RLM lol. Lower flow, lower light (in a tank with sps) and feed it.

Cool right now is in the bottom of the tank and indirect flow. But dude they are beautiful. Is it ok if I target feed with reef snow? Or should I buy some other liquid food.

Thank you for your opinion! Anyways, I think that will work. There are alot of good threads on gonni care as well as alot of different types. Some are better adjusted for captive care so spend some time googling your species.

I honestly bought this one since it looked good. But I have been reading alot about it and learned alot. Hopefully I can keep him for more than a year. just hoping my clown dont start bothering it .

Sounds interesting. I out a piece of stable rock on my CC bed and he is on top of that. He has been in y LFS tank for at least a months and he has always looks good. Is feeding reef snow ok or should I change ?

Is it a long stem or short stem? You need to post a picture! Btw, people have been keeping the short red ones for longer than a year. ORA even cultures them now.

i've had one for over a year, doing very good and very healthy.the polyps/stems extend 3 inches or more. i don't feed mine at all. it may catch stuff in the water column, but i don't target feed. be careful where you place it, as it may sting and kill other corals. good luck on your new purchase.

they do better off the sandbed a bit. the key is to keep detritus from settling on the corals. no need to feed it if u have enough fish poop.

are the polyps completely green or are they pink and green? I have one that is pink and green and it is doing really well in my tank. I have mine placed a bit on a rock like you.

The trick is to feed it. I directly feed cyclops to it. Also don't "blast" the coral with food making the polyps retract. When the goniopora eats it folds it's "petals" over the food like a flower. here's a pic to show you what it looks like when it eats.
