i just picked up a purple malu from DD this week. howd u get it to attach? i noticed the foot isn't long enough to bury thru the sand. did urs attach to rock? mines still sitting in a breeder box...
nah, its just in the box for acclimation. i put a flat piece of rock in it and it still wouldnt stick. i then tried placing it in the take and it wont take hold either... not sure whats wrong
Malus are not rock dwelling anemones they will dig into the sand. I suggest you turn your powerheads off and place it on the sand. If it doesn't dig in I would seek expert help.
yea, still doesnt seem to want to stick. the issue with the sand is that i have a 4in sandbed. the malus column is only 1in or so. it wont have anything to adhere to. thats why i placed the rock underneath it. ill have to check again tonight to see if it attached
Here is an updated picture of my malu, two months after adding it to my tank. I feed it a small piece of scalop about every 10 to 14 days.My lighting is all LED's.
The tentacles should be a bit puffier & bigger but still okay. Mine really took off when my clowns were dropping the large NLS pellets in it almost daily.
I think this species does better with more feedings & smaller items. I had a similar feeding regime as yours & it grew very slow & stopped at 6" until recently. In the last two months with the clownfish feeding it, it's added 2" at least.
Will ocellaris accept a Malu? I'd like a smaller anemone for my mated pair. Love my RBTA, but the damn thing gets so big it wipes out everything within a country mile. Then it splits and the other half wanders around wrecking havoc until I can get it out.
Ive seen Maula vary in price. Here in San Diego Ive seen very small ones for $25, but this size is more around $100+. Ive have seen percs, and Ocellaris be hosted by Malus.
