My new regal angel!

Yellow belly regals are from the red sea. IMO, the yellow bellies look bolder and are said by some to be easier to acclimate into captivity. None the less, all regals look great and one of the most important issues is to get a young healthy specimen.

you can get yellow bellys from srilanka as well

Just another update on mine. It started eating NLS pellets today with gusto. I'm so happy it finally decided to eat pellets.

Here's an updated pic of him.

Feeding update:

My regal seems to prefer the meaty tails of PE mysis shrimp over the head and legs. The fish was ignoring the head and leg parts of the PE mysis, so I began thawing the small shrimp, removing the head, and then cutting the bigger tails in half. I feed the tail pieces and the fish eats tbem immediately, This may be worth others trying.

BTW i have seen both yellow and grey bellys in person and i dont think the colors are bolder, Just that one has a yellow belly and one has a greyish blue belly. Also noticed that the grey belly ones have been coming in better so i hope this continues!! I would like a small female.

I've got both in my tank and the yellow belly has much better coloration than the blue belly. Don't know if this has something to do with gender of each and perhaps the blue belly is more muted because it has morphed into a female and the yellow belly is the male, but the blues definitely pop more on the yellow belly and the yellows are also much brighter. Mine is a Sri Lankan yellow belly I believe and the blue belly is an Indo-Pacific one. Do you know what the gender is of the blue bellies that are as impressive as the yellow bellies? I have seen many pictures of blue bellies in the wild that are simply awesome, but again, mine definitely has more muted coloration.

Now eating Instant Ocean Marine Blend Omnivore Gel Formula (LADD uses this) and putting on some weight. Still in the QT as I want this fish eating a large varienty of food before I place him in the DT.

Pretty much my initial thought on these fish. However, I do not have much experience with RAs. I will see how well mine colors up. Mine is bright, but it doesn't have the intense pop I have seen in some yellow bellies.

Just wanted to give an update on my Regal, he has been doing very well and is even a little aggressive! I finally added him to DT, I put him into a little QT box and then transferred him to the DT. I left him in there for a day and a half just to see how my other fish would react to him. They were very accepting of him. So tonight I opened up the top and released him.

Here is a new pic of him, he has started to bully my Blue Line Angel suprisingly which is much bigger than him.

I have seen numerous yellow bellied and grey bellied regals in person. As a general rule the yellow bellies have bolder / brighter colors. Not that either are ugly fish though!

The prettiest thing about any regal is seeing it eat!

My two yellow bellieds both took to pellets very quickly, I have had one for almost 5 years now (next month will be) and the other for about 8 months.

That's great! Any RA is a beautiful fish!

After waiting for years, I hope I have finally found a good specimen . I just bought this from DD today. I am thinking he will arrive Tuesday! The QT is cycled and ready. It's not a yellow belly, but I will take it!!

Might not be a yellow belly, but i would still take it!

That is still a small one? I think I can still see the ocellus on his rear section.
I'd grab it, if my tank was ready. Good excuse for that new BIG tank! LOL

Looks great Brian! Awesome color and seems to have put on weight!

Thanks Bobby,

Sorry I beat you to him when he was available! "LOL" Anyway you are right, I couldn't ask for a better specimen.

See you soon.

"Delbert" is now 2 months old. I added him to the display tank 6 days ago. Delbert is eating OK, taking PE mysis aggressively and picking off the live rock. As stated before, he also eats frozen brine and Instant Ocean Marine gel. I am waiting/hoping for him to take flakes. My potters occasionally spreads his fins at the RA, but there has been no fighting.

Here is an updated pic.

Update: Doing well

Update: Doing well

The fish is doing very well and is eating flakes and pellots with gusto. The fish now has very nice color and is beginning to add decent bulk. This fish has taken a pretty long time to put on weight despite heavy feeding. It looks better every day. I have now had the fish for 4 months. This fish has a great personality. It waits for you to feed it and bothers no fish. My potters and this fish get along fine. There was no serious agression when I added the RA to the tank. The belly is pretty yellow. The stripes are more gold than yellow.
