finally got my new(used)skimmer thursday and WOW is it pulling out some serious gunk!!im scared to empty the collection cup cuz its gonna stink!went from a asm g-3 to a asm g-4 with sedra9000 feed and a sedra 5000 recirc.wish i wouldnt have been so lazy and did the recirc mod on the g-3 it probably would have worked much better.i love these skimmers!for the price i highly recommend them.think i might make the 9000 recirc and feed with my return.i got 3-4 inches of black water in my coll cup since thursday evening.im hoping for a drastic decrease in the hair algea.!!!!

yes gary 3 x250.i think its bryopsis but im no expert.ive had hair algea before and it would pull away very easy when removing it.this stuff is like it is cemented to the friggin rock!!!!i had way too many fish in the tank with just the g-3.im feeding less, pulling out manually running phosphate remover and in the process of setting up a larger refuge.so now with the bigger skimmer hoping all this will help.this stuff is really taking over the tank!!

if it is bryopsis and you pulling out manually, be sure to not let any remain in the tank.. i had bryopsis and if it gets a chance to settle in the tank it will take foothold anywhere thus worsening the problem.. i removed the rocks and pulled off, and scrubbed off the bryopsis.. easier for me to do this but not easy for you, you have A LOT more rock than i do!! i would say keep a siphon nearby when pulling it off the rocks to dcrease the chance of the bryopsis settling elswhere..the foxface that i had traded you used to love the stuff, too bad you still didnt have him.. i would get sometype of foxface they seem to like it, i have tried the Foxface LO, and the Virgate and they both tore it up..

hey tony i did use the siphon while removing it.man this stuff just does not let go!!im gonna get some razors to see if i can slice off some chunks.i heard the virgate eats it.was it long or did he munch the short stuff.
