every night, she moves above ground with her little smeller tube sticking out, surveying the land...

It's not a cone. It appears to be a buccinid whelk, but from those pictures I won't even venture a guess as to which species. If you could get a picture of the opening of the shell with the snail withdrawn you would have a much better chance of getting an ID.

Was just scrolling back through old posts, and saw this. You probably already have the snail identified, but if not, it's Nassarius papillosus.
