My New Sump

Raise The Reef!
Just wanted to show some pics of my new sump. The guy just finished building it for me and I should be picking it up soon. I am now just waiting for my tank to ship so I can set everything up!

Enjoy :D

I have everything I need except for the tank and stand. This guy even built me an overflow box with a lid. It is identical to the Glass-Holes overflow box but half the price.

Thanks.

Thsts so nice I would hate to put Saltwater in it LOL.

I agree a slight bit overkill, but to each their own. I'm happy with a 30/40 breeder with two baffles, a skimmer a couple reactors, a pump and bam! Instant awesome reef ready sump! I thought it was a desktop computer, but hey I've had a couple drinks. It looks pretty sweet and I would love to see it in action! How much was it by the way?

Look really nice and just plain cool!

Some bracing under those parts on the inside walls might not hurt, including the filter sock brace and even under the probe holder - these could easily be broken off while putting in a pump, cleaning etc.

I looked for a simple setup like that but I am not dealing with an average size tank. There is not a standard glass tank that would work as a sump for me and give me the options this set up does.

The sump was $200 with everything shown in the pics. Not cheap by any means but I wanted a sump again and I racked my brain trying to find a cheaper alternative. I thought about using a 12x12 Mr Aqua tank but then I would have to silcone glass/acrylic baffles in and design all that. Then I would have to hope I can get everything to fit and make it look good.

It was a lot of hassle that I really didn't want to go through again. On my 40g breeder I went the cheaper route and it was okay but upgrading was hard because my sump limited some things.

Did you custom design this? What can you tell us about it?

The sump is semi-custom designed by me but the real credit goes to Tyler, the guy who built it. I told him I needed it fit a Bubble Magus 3.5 or Ecoxotic's stock skimmer and I wanted the drain on the left and the return section just to the right of the drain but separated. I wanted to keep the pump in the back for ease of plumbing.

The 2-part containers hold 1.1 gallon each and are totally ready. All I need is the dosing pumps and tubing.

The sump itself is 15x15x13 IIRC. This is going on an Ecoxotic 25g tank that I am getting. I plan to tear out the false wall, drill the back glass, and use the overflow box that Tyler also built me. The red eurobrace was a last second idea that he had and I LOVE it!

Thanks for the advice. If anything breaks I will put support under them at that point. Tyler has an incredible reputation out here and has built stuff in the past for me. His work is the BEST I have ever seen.

That looks killer! Looks like he did a great job, I am eagerly awaiting the build thread on this tank. :-)
