The canopy's dimensions are meant to mirror the display tank. As will it's skin and trim.

plural, you're going to put your other one on there too? Not worried about temperatures at all, or, I guess you'll suspend it over the tank from something?

It's going to be a floating canopy. I'm for sure not going to mess up the rimless look by sticking a canopy on it. I just set it on the tank to show the size.

I'm actually going to attempt to hang it from the conduit... but will need to see how much it weighs once everything is finished. I may end up needing to build a new light rack with an additional support... to early to call yet. The frame weighs next to nothing right now.

I'll only be using one halide. I'm baking stuff right now... the tank is so shallow. I'll going to do some PAR testing this week to confirm... but from the look of the corals... I can tell it's just too intense right now.

If you used that paper thin birch veneer plywood, as long as you clamped it real tight when you glue it down, it should look pretty nice and would also cut back big time on the weight. So if you're getting too much light already, are you also thinking about raising the canopy up a few more inches/feet?

Guess you could always scale back to a 175w halide if you needed to also.

Yeah I'm going to raise it 2" at a time until I hit the sweet spot. Dropping to a 20k bulb should help as well.

Thanks.

I'll tell you what though... I am about burnt out on wood work. I've been working on a side project for my girlfriend, which I was able to finish getting ready for paint today as well.

I need to make 2 new conduit light racks... and after that my DIY days are hopefully done for a while.

Thanks. Everything was sanded and got a coat of paint today. Hopefully 2 coats is all I will need. I forgot how much of a pain painting is.
