Working to many hours at the moment to have time to wire up the ballast. I might have some time this weekend to start, but may have to help my sister-in-law move. I'm also trying to get things ready to go on vacation (again!) in two weeks.

Thought I would take a few pictures of my recent additions of 300 snails.

get some of the mysis from the reefnutrition folks. Diversity for your microfauna population ya know?

Chuck, it sounds like a lot of snails, but they are small and you really just don't see them all in such a large tank. The ocean pods I added should be a few different types, adding some mysis would be another addition I plan on making. I'm hoping to get some from someone's sump.
I noticed that a few mini starfish survived the storage/cooking process too, so maybe some other things will show up and surprise me.

I have had a few people ask me for better pictures of the "hook" that I used instead of drilling my sump.

It's fairly simple, the part to remember is the fill plug so you can prime it the first time. Be sure to use plenty of Teflon tape to seal it, if not, micro bubble city! The bottom of it is about 1/4 of an inch from the bottom of the glass, but I also drilled some holes in the pipe just incase something decided to try to clog up.

I am thinking about taking my CL pump and running it as my return, and I have a question about your loop. I have my setup so that when I feed, I can kill the power to the return pump so that the food stays in the display. Can the pump still be turned on/off and not lose siphon on a daily basis?

Yes, since the water in the sump rises, if does not drain the hook. Also, it for some reason the water does drain on the sump side, it stays in the pump side. As long as the suction side is under water when the pump restarts, it will start pumping. The trick is to have the pump side full, that's what the plug is for. The first time it has to be filled by hand.

I also ordered mine through Mcmasrter Carr, but was surprised to find the same ones at Lowes in the plumbing dept. They also have the union ball valves too. The lowes in Cali didn't have them, but they do out here in TX!!!

Our Lowes only carries the ABS black fittings, not the white PVC fittings.

Kevin has gsp, Ken will have zoos, and its starting to look like I will have blueridge. My tank is starting to do something (something good I hope) and all of a sudden a frag of blue ridge that was laying on the bottom starboard is really taking off. It has really encrusted the starboard and and about a week ago I accidentally broke off one little piece and it got blown away before I could grab it. I just found it and it has encrusted both the starboard and a piece of rock. Im thinking of trying a monti lawn on the left side...

Dave, I had a very nice blue ridge that left to Texas with Brent. If you ever have another piece of it to frag, LMK. It's not a very exciting coral, but one I always liked.

Joseph, I've been on vacation all week!

Most of what you see is 1 1/2" with a few 2". Did you need some, I have quite a few pieces left over.

Don, I've been doing that for the last few months!! I only had to take 4 calls the whole vacation.

I finally was able to hire me a helper a week before I left.


Good news was that when the power was shut down to the house while I was gone (Edison restringing power lines) that the tank made it just fine.
