My new tank

just talked to the guy with the hat at ACF and with the sharks, hes setting up like a 600g tankfor his daughter (in her room!) and like a 700g or something in his livingroom all aggressive tanks, give him a shout when the time comes... also when i upgrade im thinking of a 180-210 aggressive FOWLR, maybe give me a shout ;) good luck with everything lol.

Nice to see you have a tank again, and that your photography skills haven't left you....I do however fear for the lives of your Hawkfish and Wrasse.
It turns out your fears were well founded... I'm down to two fish. The sixline disappeared overnight. I checked all over the floor even though the tank is securely covered, no little wrasse. I'm sure he was sleeping at night in his little mucus cocoon and was quite a tasty little treat for an exploring undulated.

R.I.P. little dude.

This is what I like about triggers, they are just goofy and move like little helicopters. Here he is swimming partially upside down looking for food I think in this fake coral. He also sleeps upside down quite a bit in his little roman coliseum :)

And I just like this next picture because he looks so streamlined. BTW, that's Angel Formula floating through the water, I have two packs left of the cubes and thought I might as well try it, he loves it. I figure since they are omnivores in the wild this is pretty close to a natural food source :)

Well good to see you back man ! Your pics skills are awsome ! Your baby girl will love to watch the undy !
My 1 1/2 year baby boy loves his 3 inch ****** trigger in his 40 G tank ... sure will outgrow the tank eventually ..but for me nothing is better than hearing my boy saying peixe (fish in portuguese) and cheering when feeding pellets to his fish... (good daddy will help him of course)

As you I thought that some other fishes would make the tank more appealing and I added a pair or clarkii clowns... althrough odonus is milder than undy... maybe you can go for this choice as well... clowns and trigger are living together for about a year (this tank was set up for my baby boy for sure...)

welcome back !

i agree more fish in the tank lol. ACF has a few clarkiis that have been there forever. did you know he has a panther grouper and a barracuda in his LR tank and miniatus in one of the 55s lol. sorry to go OT.

Hah... I assume you meant Niger trigger. Silly RC didnt like your extra g.

Just some more pictures, I borrowed a macro lens so I can get some nice close shots. I used the flash too so that's why the color looks a little different but it sure makes the shot nice and clear.

That's a cute little trigger and I love the hawk. Those hawks are just so red in person, it's wild. Sorry to hear about the wrasse; I hope the hawk fairs better. It's great you have a tank again. I knew you'd get one soon enough hanging around here :D. I'm glad your little girl is enjoying it!

Oops. I posted the same picture twice in post #24... this is one of the ones I meant to post. You can really see his skin shape and texture.

Thanks, Lukfox and jjk, it's fun taking pictures of such personable critters.

This is one of the most dramatic color changing fish I've seen in my life. All my triggers changed colors to some degree, I think my goldheart was the most variance but this undulated beats even it.

This is a picture of normal color when he is just cruising the tank... no flash used.

I bought two fire shrimp and some live rock rubble for them to reside in and hopefully get a little bit of a pod population going... and I was HOPING they would clean the trigger. I know I've seen him scratching and I know he definitely has ich since he was in Petco water for 5 months. Cleaner shrimp cant get rid of ich but I was hoping they could help with the itch.

Long story short, as soon as he saw them he came over and turned insanely dark and spread all his fins and was laying there trying to get cleaned. The shrimp had only been in the water 5 minutes so they were still just getting adjusted, but after he begged for about 2 hours they started cleaning him. Anyway, his color was just amazing during this cleaning period. Super dark and purplish, I wish he looked this way all the time.

Begging...

Still begging...

More begging...

And then finally, success!!! I wish he wasnt in the far back corner of the tank in the dark, I couldnt get a good clear shot.

And then here, I wanted to get a picture of his dorsal spine since he was stopped and displaying it so nicely.

Anyway, what a gorgeous fish. I love this guy and I'm so happy he is using the fire shrimp as cleaners and not appetizers.

great pics of a great fish, I miss mine even though i have a lot of other triggers to take the edge off so to speak :lolspin: Your pics may just push me to get another one. Good to see you have a tank again. A bit off topic .... thanks for your previous long thread about treating your display with copper, it helped me to do the same for my 210 with good results. Hope your shrimp cont to do well and survive, i'm tagging along as i've wanted to try cleaners before with an undy so curious to see how it works out for you.

So far, the cleaners aren't doing so well. I had two, the spunky one who roamed around the tank got eaten last night. That leaves me with just one. He is smarter or more timid, take your pick. He hides in my rock caves. He will clean the undulated but he wont just go cruising around the tank like the other guy when I feed.

Anyway, I wont replace this guy if he dies, but I hope he continues to play it smart. I need to figure out some way to really get the undulated stuffed full before night time, that seems to be the danger time once the lights go out.

Ugh I'm so jealous. My cleaners don't do anything. I love the dorsal fin shot!
Really? Every cleaner I've ever owned has always cleaned like a champ. Even the fire shrimp, which people say are pretty rare to see clean, they've always cleaned for me. I had a pair in my old 75g reef and they jumped on every fish, even the small chromis.

I got some good pictures tonight of the fire shrimp...

Wow the eye shot is absolutely killer. Beautiful!

And yeah, I have two skunk cleaners now. I'm especially disappointed in the shrimp that's in my 155g. A tank full of angels, butterflies, and some wrasses and he just sits in a cave all day. The angels are always begging to be cleaned, too, and still the shrimp does nothing. No luck with the shrimp that's in the eel tank either, sadly. Thinking about trying a fire shrimp now ha.

Wow, that's really weird. My skunk cleaners have always cleaned lots. Even the cleaners I had in my 210 when I had major aggressives did lots of cleaning, they jumped all over the big bad boys.

I got these fire shrimp for $8 each at a super sale is the only reason I went ahead and tried it, I wasnt going to pay the usual $49 for one up here. I was really hoping that the undulated would leave them alone since they've got the white antennae and do the cleaner dance, but one only lasted through the night the first night.

I need to put on an autofeeder and feed the undulated early in the morning, I think what he is doing is getting hungry after going all night and snacking on whatever he can find.

I had much better luck with skunks in the past, I guess. Even the current skunk in my 155 cleaned these very same angels when I was conditioning them in a 10g. Once moved to the 155g, he ignores them.

Ah so both shrimp have been eaten now?

Nope, one is still alive. I had a spunky one who wandered around the tank and he got eaten, the one that hides in the live rock rubble is still alive.

Oh awesome! I read that as only one living through the first night, making it sound like it didn't make the second night.

And speak of the devil, the cleaner shrimp just cleaned my eel. It's about time! Now the shrimp in the 155g just needs to take notes from this guy.
