My new tank

It's nice having a small tank, very easy maintenance, but it's also kind of a bummer not being able to keep the big cool tangs and angels. Oh well though :)

thats how i feel bout my 75 and 55 LOL, i want to upgrade to a 210 or something with the PFD but that would be enough to buy the tank and mayeb stand lol.

anyways add a few damsels, $20 in damsels wont hurt your wallet if they get eaten. i dont have personal experience with triggers at all but from what i understand 2 baby undys would work until personal space becomes an issue lol.

I here where you're coming from, Recty. That's exactly why I didn't get into saltwater until my kids were older. Unlessss...you teach her to do water changes.

Hah, now that is a good idea :) I think she is a little young yet (just turned 4 months) but I'll get on that soon!

This fish is the most like a dog type fish that I have ever owned. Some of my angels were OK with me and definitely followed me around because they thought I had food but they werent really interested in what I was doing. This little undulated actually follows me around watching everything I do.

These shots are in the corner of the tank right by my computer where I spend some time in the evening, he always comes over and takes a nap there or totally falls asleep, just sitting there watching me but relaxing. But if I'm not there in the evening, then he goes and sleeps in a cave somewhere else.

This picture is taken right from my computer.

This one is from right in the front of the tank, so my computer is right on the right side of the tank. Anyway, he just sits there and watches me, it's pretty funny.

Hah, yeah, he does like to be near me. I must smell like pellets :P

I just started using an autofeeder two days ago, I wonder how he will be when he quits associating my presence with food.

Well, I thought up a plan. Hopefully it works...

Striped blenny, anyone have one? It's one of the more common fish that I've never owned. Why do I think they would be good with an undulated trigger? Well, they are mildly poisonous and look like it too, they have that color to them like the poisonous frogs do that no other animal touches. Plus their other name is a fanged blenny, that's because they have fangs they can bite aggressive fish with.

Anyway, I'm hoping they do OK with the undulated. I have another person here locally already who wants the fish if they start getting picked on, but so far so good. They've been in the tank about 6 hours now and he doesnt even look at them. I realize that isnt a long term example yet, but I figured if he was going to be aggressive it would have started right at the beginning.

I don't want to jinx you, but I have a feeling this combo (undy w/ blennies) will not end well. Might be ok while trigger is young though.

Yeah, they are most likely not a permanent addition to the tank. If there is any aggression, I'll pull them out. Eventually the undy is going to outgrow the tank, I was told they grow slow but I can already tell he has put on some growth and my wife came in the other day and said she thought he looked bigger, so if my wife can tell it was growing then it's really growing.

i see ACF has brought in more nice specimens, i need to make it out there soon. nice additions i would love to get some of those for my 55 or 75. any speciel requirements like DSB or special food? lol

Nope, no special requirements. They are pretty easy as far as blennies go. They do have a poisonous bite though, which is rare in the fish world.

Make no mistake, the trigger is king.

I'll try to break it to you gently, but I think you mean "queen" here. If I remember correctly female undulatus have the striped pattern extending onto the face. Male faces are free of stripes.

I kept a 3" undy in a 40 breeder for 3 yrs. Great fish. Never really grew. I would never keep another fish with it tho. It's not just that they are aggressive, they are very clever as well. Poison fangs are not going to dissuade your girl from those blennys. She will attack them from behind, when she decides it's time...

I've heard stories of them eviscerating large eels that could have had them for lunch in one bite.

That's true, I had heard that about the trigger faces but I forgot. Good to "re-know" that :)

Well, I'm being hopeful. I just feel kind of bad, she has started just spending a lot of time swimming against the side of the tank when I'm not around. I feel like she is bored, so I'm trying to provide her a little stimulation. I dont want her to kill the stimulation though, so if she gets mean with the other fish I'll remove them.

Down to two blennies already. One of them never did swim quite right, even while in acclimation it was just sitting at the bottom whereas the other ones swam around.

Anyway, one died today, the other two are doing fine. I was afraid I'd find large bite marks in the dead one but it's totally clean, so the undulated didnt kill it.

I dont think it was the trigger at all, he looked at them when introduced and hasnt bothered them once. He ignores them totally and the body was completely devoid of bites or scratches, I dont think the trigger had anything to do with it. One even while acclimating just didnt seem quite right, I mentioned to my wife last night I wished there was a way to mark him and see if he lived long or not, but I didnt feel like trying a magic marker on him ;)

haha well i hope they do well with your trigger, for the first time i saw them in my lfs they were maybe 2 and a half inches' very small. they didnt even look mean like the other triggers.. did u not want to add any of the more aggressive damsels?

I might try damsels, I just dont really like them. But if nothing else works, I MIGHT be willing to do it. Otherwise it will just be by itself in the tank.

I was gone all weekend with just an autofeeder going for the feeding and everyone seems just fine, the two blennies are going strong with no missing fins ;)

My biggest concern is I was told they would eat small pellets, but they arent touching mine and I'm feeding the small 0.5mm ones. They only eat mysis and I cant feed that through an autofeeder.
