Before my Grandmother passed, I started on the stand for it.. It is far from complete, but heres what it looks like so far:

Like I said, it still has a long way to go. It got put on hold due to obvious reasons. I hope to finish it next weekend. I am going to paint it the same color as my livingroom (grey W/White trim). Thats all so far...

That stand is never going to support that tank...just kidding.

Is that a drawer or a pull out shelf? Having a little shelf to do your water testing on and such, would be/is a great idea.

Great Job!

yeah, its a shelf... for water testing, preparing food, and of course to hold my ashtray when I get up close and personal to the tank.. lol. The stand has 14 8 foot 2x4's cut up in it... lol... I think it will hold my car!

Haven't you got around to drilling that thing yet. Remember if it explodes I didn't do it.(HAHA) Let me know if you need help with anything.

Not drilled yet... I have my 65mm bit, but its for the $20.00 heavy-duty 1-1/2" bulkheads, and I am thinking of going with the $5 ones... which means I will have to get a smaller bit..Tried to return your call the other day troy, and got no answer.. give me a buzz when you get time...

ok, a little update..After heaving and hoeing, I got her up the stairs. I was too impatient to wait and have someone help me.. I just HAD to see what it looks like with the tank on it. My wife thinks I am crazy doing it myself. I think she felt sorry for me, and helped me set the tank on the stand. Man, I'm done for the day... Take note I still have some touching up to do... The doors are actually still wet... DRUMROLL PLEASE! :

Hope you like!..

It comes out just about the same price...but I wanted a different look than I could buy...Thanks for the compliment..

Stand looks fab! Probably not an issue, but have you thought about the weight you could be adding to you second story floor structure? Might be worth knowing what size your floor joists are and o/c spacing so somebody can verify they can take the added projected weight. The water for the tank alone will weigh 1,000 lbs. Just a conservative thought. I've a 100 gal fresh water tank upstairs before, but not a reef with all the love rock, sump, sand and misc weight.

The tank will be located on a load bearing wall, thst has 6 stacked 2x12's for the wall footer. My floor joists are 16" apart, and there is 3 metal poles going from the basement floor, up to the wall footer. The sump will be a 150g rubbermaid stock tank, located in the basement. I wil also be doubling up the floor joists under the tank, and adding 3 more metal poles 36" out from the existing poles... Heres a pic of under where the tank will sit... (Kinda hard to make out what is what though).. The grey stuff is my return duct for the AC/furnace

I think it will be fine...

I like the stand! I like the antique look...that's what I've been wanting, but can't find...

...but you really gotta paint over the hinges! They detract too much!...

Stand looks great. Almost as good as my Hood! HaHa. I vote paint the hinges. If they could have all been the same spaced all accross but since they are different, I say paint. I think you want the people looking at your tank first not the stand or the hinges. Just my .02

That looks great Jason! Man you work fast....:)

I don't know about your old house, but my old house is built like a tank. I've never had any problem with my 75 w/ 29 sump. The floor and subfloor is 2" thick.

I vote paint the hinges.

Jason the structure seems adequate, especially since you sump will be in the basement. Good job on all so far. Can't wait to see your progress.

What are you going to do for the lighting? Canopy, hanging system, or buy some type of low profile tek light to set on top?

canopy... I started to build one.. Liked the framework, but then started sheeting it with plywood, and didnt like it.. so I am going to sheet it in 1X.. (like the stand)... I am going to run a 175w on each end, and a 250w in the middle... Have not decided on color temp yet.. I am also going to run 2 65w PC actinics over it.. Oh yeah,.... 55g w/lights, stand, canopy, CPR100 overflow, 29g sump, and rio 2100 for sale $200.00 after I get my livestock in the 125... (May be a couple months)..

Jason

Oh yeah, Total cost on the stand was $140.00.... and a couple hours labor...A little cheaper than a manufactured stand..
